Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1

The Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1 looks great when you are watching HDTV, but standard-definition video with the TV's default settings looks worse than it should.

Detailed imagery with HD sources. Customizable menu system. Good color representation.

Single digital video input is limiting. Default picture settings degrade standard-definition viewing experience. Scrolling through broadcast channel guide also caused the TV to change channels, with odd blank-screen pause between channel changes.

To test the V40XBR1's ability to upscale standard-definition video to its native high-definition resolution, I configured a Denon DVD-3910 disc player to provide the V40XBR1 with a 480i signal via component video input and an upscaled 720p signal via...

Sony Bravia KDL-V32XBR1 HDTV

The Sony Bravia KDL-V32XBR1 offers some interesting, high-end features that help explain its high price ($2700 on 3/24/06). However, its image quality, though generally good, falls short of what you see on some less expensive LCD TVs.

Prominent, well-labeled inputs CableCard slot

So-so image quality on HDTV content Pricey

The chief attraction of the Sony Bravia KDL-V32XBR1 is its well-conceived physical design. Details like the CableCard slot and the neatly secured remote battery compartment make this a TV that would be easy to live with. And if you have use for the...

Great Picture!

HD on this set makes one feel like they are actually there! The first thing I saw was a Yosemite Park winter scene from our local KCET HD channel in Los Angeles (Marina del Rey).

Picture clarity, and easy set up.

No 1080i display for this size set, although it may not be needed?
