Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000 HDTV

There's nothing wrong with Sony's 40W3000 LCD set that a good price reduction wouldn't cure. Well, not much, anyway. I noticed some lackluster details in the broadcast high-def tests, but overall the images looked good (in our November issue's HDTV...

Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000 LCD HDTV

The Basics: In terms of price, the W Series falls in the middle of Sony's LCD lineup, yet it offers many of the same technologies and features found in the company's higher-end XBR4 and XBR5 lines. Like its higher-end brethren, this 40-inch 1080p model...

Users are also impressed by the picture out of the box. The TV even delivers better-than-average images on analog sources, something that is hard to do for a lot of the lower-end models

Despite its titanic feature count, this 46in LCD TV is sunk by unwelcome noise

Vibrant colours ; Excellent audio quality ; Wealth of connections

Motion smearing ; High price

Sony Bravia KDL-46W3000 46in LCD TV

We've all seen the bouncing balls and exploding paint, but does this Sony LCD TV live up to the hype?

The Bravia Engine EX has impressed us overall in previous incarnations, so hopefully it will still look good in today's highly competitive world. Especially considering that Sony has presumably tweaked it a touch since its last-gen outing.

Sony Bravia KDL-46W3000 review

We had high hopes for this true second-generation Bravia from Sony. But while some elements of its performance are right on the money, it lets itself down surprisingly badly in a couple of key areas, making its premium price point hard to stomach

Vibrant and natural colours ; Stuffed with features ; Beautifully built

Suffers with motion blur ; Black levels ; Not exactly cheap

Conclusion Although there are signs of real quality in the 46W3000, its severe problems handling motion ultimately make it a pretty major disappointment. Especially considering it's hardly cheap by LCD standards these days. Here's hoping the brand's...

Including three HDMIs and two component video inputs among its connections, meanwhile, ensures that the 46W3000 provides plenty of terminals for our favourite HD sources.

Excellent colour response, loads of features, great build quality

Motion blur, black level issues
