Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2

Sony's KDL-40XBR2 offers better color and image contrast than most HDTVs.

Excellent image contrast. Superb color quality. Stylish design with customizable features.

Lackluster standard definition video processing. Useless EPG. Decreased color saturation at relatively acute viewing angles.

Sony Bravia KDL-XBR2 review

Intro

Accurate color decoding; extremely sharp and detailed picture, thanks to true 1,920x1,080 resolution; delivers deep blacks for an LCD; comprehensive feature package with numerous picture controls; great connectivity with three HDMI inputs and a PC...

Expensive; noisy standard-def video processing.

Although more expensive than most similarly sized HDTVs on the market, the stylish Sony KDL-46XBR2 delivers one of the best pictures we've ever seem from an LCD flat-panel.

Sony KDL-46XBR2

In that other format war, LCD flat panel technology has been making great strides in its attempt to match plasma in picture quality. Is this the year that LCD catches up?

There is a lot to like about the Sony KDL-46XBR2. Spot-on color temperature and realistic color reproduction when calibrated. Plus that mouth-watering detail -- 2 million pixels of it. It really can look breathtaking on certain high definition...

Sony KDL-46XBR2 LCD HDTV

For this price, you should expect 1080p resolution, and you get it. The Sony KDL-46XBR2 also has a larger screen, jumping from 42 to 46 inches—which makes more of a difference than you might think. At least for me, the 46-inch mark is the point at...

The KDL-46XBR2 isn't meant for the average consumer who wants a plug-and-play living-room TV on which to watch a lot of standard-definition sources. Clearly, Sony intends for this HDTV to be the anchor of a high-end home theater system sporting the...

Sony BRAVIA KDL-52XBR2 Flat Panel: First Look

The Pearl wasn't the only significant product introduction from Sony at CEDIA 2006. Sony introduced a big, 52" BRAVIA LCD flat panel with full-on 1080p resolution. As with the 46" BRAVIA LCD we recently reviewed (and dug) this one is loaded with...

Sony BRAVIA KDL-52XBR2 LCD: Coming Attraction

The introduction of this big LCD panel at CEDIA 2006 was overshadowed somewhat by Sony's introduction of the Pearl SXRD projector, but we're going to fix that right here and now. LCD is where Sony butters its flat panel bread, and this one is loaded....
