Sony Bravia XBR-55X900E review

This is the HDR flatscreen we've all been waiting for

Direct LED with local dimming ; Excellent motion handling ; Unfussy but elegant design ; Surprisingly good audio

HDR is a bit dim ; Rubbery remote ; Power brick is inconvenient ; No 3D support

It may not offer the same peak brightness as Sony’s flagship UHD sets, the X930E and X940E, but this 4K direct LED backlit screen is still a brilliant buy.

Sony KD-55XE9005

It may look like just another cookie-cutter UHD TV, all ultra-slim bezel and tricked out HDMI inputs, but Sony's XE90 line offers buyers something a little special: direct LED backlighting with local dimming.

Ultra-crisp imagery with uniform black-level performance and watchable HDR, make this an unquestionably superior Sony TV offering.

Great value and quality

Freeview HD picture is excellent depending on the broadcast quality, the scaling is very good. Even some better SD content is OK. Both will obviously be better on the 49" than the larger models, one of the reasons I chose it as HD will form most of my...

Somewhat overpriced

This TV does some things well and others not so well, which is disappointing given the price. I use it primarily with a Virgin TIVO V6 and I think the HD picture is less sharp than on the Panasonic plasma set I owned before. Full-HD Netflix looks...

Stunning picture quality

Easy to set up and get going. Takes a while longer to get around and understand all the features. Need to ensure you have a fast broadband speed to get best use of its internet connectivity.

Huge disappointment!!!

Built in apps keep crashing or say loading then crashes and it has a very slow remote control response, sometimes not responding at all. It will freeze from time to time. Youview doesn't work, every time I tried to watch something few days back it...

Very Pleased

I did a bit of research as it was a good 10 years or more since we bought a new TV and technology has moved on a lot in that time. We've had Sony before and as Pioneer no longer make TVs, we decided to buy a Sony again. I have had no regrets. The only...

Great Picture, but Bravia link failed and could no

I owned the tv for 9 days having owned a Panasonic plasma previously. It took about 5 days and a lot of of changes to the picture settings until I was happy and the picture was amazing. I would suggest turning all of the settings off and take it from...
