HARDWARE REVIEW: Sony KDL-40HX723

Sony continues its 3D resurrection with its latest 40in TV, says John Archer

Mostly very good 3D pictures; excellent 2D pictures; Sony’s BIV online system is superb

Residual 3D crosstalk in dark scenes; more than a little overpriced

Hi-def 2D material is superbly crisp and detailed, and even upscaled SD pictures look excellent thanks to Sony’s X-Reality Pro engine. Gamers will be impressed by the contrast and sharpness, but also by the respectable 40ms of input lag using the set’s...

Sony KDL-40HX723 review

Sony TVs are a bit like Star Trek movies. They alternate between good and woeful for no apparent reason. But while the decent Trek flicks are relatively easy to predict - stick with the even-numbered outings and you won't go far wrong - avoiding the...

Crisp, convincing HD images; bright ‘outy’ 3D; well-stocked streaming media portal

No support for MKV, no 3D glasses included

The current stand-out screen in Sony’s 2011 range, the KDL-40HX723 combines elegant design and class-leading IPTV services, with superior high-def and perfectly acceptable 3D

Sony KDL-40HX723 review

For this review we tested the 40in model in the HX723 range. It's also listed in a 46in screen size (KDL-46HX723) on Sony's website, but wer can't find the larger version for sale at present. That model has identical specifications except for its...

It's expensive, but this is a fantastic LCD all-rounder that has all the features we would expect and excellent image quality

Sony KDL-40HX723

After its disastrous EX723 series, Sony badly needed a 3D winner. And in the 40HX723, that's exactly what it's got.

Very good 3D and excellent 2D pictures ; Peerless online video service ; Superb upscaling

Tricky to use ; Rather expensive ; No 3D glasses included

Well would you believe it, Sony can produce a good 3D picture after all. In fact, the quality of the 40HX723’s 3D pictures make the problems with the EX723 range look even more like some kind of manufacturing flaw. The 40HX723 is also an excellent 2D...

Sony KDL-40HX723 40in LED 3D TV

Review The KDL-40HX723 is a feature-heavy 40in Freeview HD TV from the posh end of Sony's 2011 catalogue. While it sells for a tad more than a looky-likey from the brand's bread and butter EX range, the premium is worth paying if you want to see what...

40in Freeview HD telly with IPTV, 3D viewing and all the latest imaging enhancements.

Great TV

After weeks of reviewing I decided to stay with Sony, my Sony Trinitron gave up the ghost after 14 years of loyal service.

Sony KDL-46HX723

I love the image, the possibility to access the internet (LoveFilm, youttube, etc) and the way I can control my panasonic Blu-Ray player from the Sony remote

Still getting use to navigating the remote control. I would love to have a keyboard option rather than have to type in things (on the internet interface) using the 0-9 keypad. It is truly dreadful. I might yet attach a miniature PC to the machine but...
