Sony Bravia KDL-52HX903 review

Sony's debut 3D TV is pricey, but has tricks up its sleeve

Terrific looks ; Massive feature count ; Extensive multimedia abilities ; Mostly superlative pictures

Rather limited viewing angle ; Crosstalk noise with 3D playback ; Very average sound ; Expensive

Sony has really upped the ante with its 2010 Bravia TV range. It's added many more features and introduced a radical new 'Monolithic' design.

Sony Bravia KDL-52HX903

We find out if this 52in LCD TV successfully marries direct LED backlighting with 3D readiness.

3D TV going for just £2,300, which includes both its 3D transmitter and two pairs of (admittedly poor) glasses, we really wouldn’t have minded Sony chucking a pair of glasses or two in with the £3,449 52HX903. After all, if you want to add 3D and...

Sony KDL-52HX903 review

The Sony KDL-52HX903 may look expensive, and costs even more to make it 3D-enabled, but it's an exceptionally talented TV

Sophisticated, unshowy looks ; great ergonomics ; fearsome picture-making chops

Charging extra for the 3D-enabling gubbins is cheeky

If the screen-size isn’t too big, and the price isn’t too high, there’s simply no reason not to buy a 52HX903

Best 46in TV, Awards 2010. With a 3D transmitter the KDL-46HX903 will give a thrilling 3D performance

Great picture performance from all sources ; spec as long as your arm ; hefty build

Sony wants to part you from more money to make your TV 3D ; grinding sound

Best 46in TV, Awards 2010. Familiarity has bred nothing but admiration for the KDL-46HX903 – it’s an achievement

Sony KDL-52HX903

Internet Connectivity ; 3D ; Size ; Mains switch ; Cabling options

Ghosting on 3D ; 3D transmitter not built in ; Lack of Internet updates - very disappointed at this. Why aren't new channels made available as per newer tvs. This may well put me off buying another Sony ; Slowish response to remote

fantastic picture quality , beautiful design

for a televisdion costing this much Sony should have included HDMI cable or Optical cable or anything to allow the TV to talk to other sony products. Also at this price 3D glasses should have been included

Sony KDL-52HX903

Mindblowing image quality both on SD and HD sources and both in 2D and 3D. Sound quality is excellent as well. Very easy to use remote control and very easy to understand how to use the set. And having Lovefilm, iPlayer, etc on the TV is brilliant - no...

Menus are a bit slow to respond, especially when first turned on when you press a button on the remote it can take a good 2-5 seconds before something happens. Once it has been running for a bit then that gets much better there is still a definite lag...

UV2A panel over newer models SVGA; fully backlit LED; awesome image quality, upgradeable with firmware updates, great 3D images

Costly; no included 3D accessories (have to be bought separately); no built in Wi-Fi
