Sony KDL-40EX640

When it comes to buying a TV, no matter how attractive the shiny flagship models may be, it usually makes the most sense to buy the midrange products. While you'd naturally assume that the more advanced models have better picture quality this isn't...

The relatively affordable Sony EX640 offers deep-enough black levels for the money and commendable color saturation. The design is attractive and the menu system is easy to use.

We detected a couple of uniformity issues, black areas can look blue under lights, and shadow detail isn't up there with the better TVs. The wireless dongle takes up a USB port. The SEN portion of the Smart TV interface is so slow that it's kind of a...

Sony's EX640 series is one of the better deals from the company, with decent picture quality and features for the price.

Sony Bravia KDL-40EX640

The excitement of having online features is now just wearing off. We were ecstatic that a TV could be so much more than just a display for a cable box; something to connect to the internet and therefore the world! Now that the fiery honeymoon period...

Great connectivity ; Decent all-around performance

Not the Smart TV we want to use ; Uniformity issues again rear their ugly head

The Bravia KDL-40EX640 ($899 MSRP) is a low-end, 1080p Smart TV from Sony in 2012. We like that they are producing a cheaper Smart TV, hitting a niche audience that wants online features, no 3D, and a good television.

The Google TV capabilities of the KDL-40EX640 allow you to access the internet in a computer-like environment, with the ability to have more than one window up on your screen at a time. It comes with 12 apps and full browsing capabilities. You can...

You can open two windows on your screen at the same time, allowing you to watch TV and surf the web simultaneously

Nice TV but one audio "gotcha" got me

The TV meets my expectations for picture quality and internet connectivity, but I can't say that it really exceeds them, so I would have given it 4 stars, but because of the the problem with its audio output, it gets 3 stars.

Good picture

Fiber optic audio output fails on some sources

Very Satisfied

Bought this for my son after having my Sony Bravia 40" and checking out the picture quality on this model at multiple stores. A few more dollars than some of the cheaper brands, but the picture is the best with the best viewing angle. Ordered from J&R...

BraVADA 40

Bought this Bravada tv paying over $1500.00 for it after researching thinking I got the best that there was to buy. Now it does not work after only 2.5 years. Called a service tech costing me $80.00 to have it estimated at another $500.00 to have it...

Great TV for price, room size

We were a bit concerned about buying an open box set, but we saw it in use at J&R and were impressed, especially compared to other HDTVs with these specs (1080i, 120hz) at this size (40"). Many Americans may be able to accommodate a 50" TV, but we...
