Sony KDL-40 V 5810

The Sony KDL-40 V 5810 TV is a 40-inch Full HD LCD TV with a universal tuner. Available since November 2009, the device is listed at 799 GBP on Sony's website. Elsewhere online, it's available for 750 GBP.

High contrast ratio ; Neutral colours ; Accurate 24p reproduction ; Universal tuner (including CI+)

Poor motion clarity with standard signals ; Lacks full set of aspect-ratio settings

The Sony KDL-40 V 5810 scores plenty of plus points: With its excellent features, contrast-rich images, and consistent colours, it seems on first glance to rival bigger, costlier Sony models. Still, the low motion clarity can be irritating — especially...

Sony Bravia KDL-40V5810 television review

The latest Bravia HD TV in Sony's "V" range is this, the KDL-40V5810 and it sports integrated Freesat, Freeview and analogue tuners; AppliCast, Live Colour and 24p True Cinema along with all the other Bravia goodies.

Price, easy set-up, picture quality, eco settings, speakers, slimmer design, great connectivity

Uneven illumination in low eco mode, AppliCast's limitations

Sony's Bravia KDL-40V5810 is a neat step up for the Bravia V 5000 range of Sony's HD TVs with the inclusion of Freesat and digital Freeview and analogue tuners giving plenty of scope for viewing options and plenty of connectivity

Sony Bravia V5810 (KDL-32V5810) review

With Freeview HD already this year's hot AV feature, the Sony Bravia KDL-32V5810's freesat HD tuner is no longer the draw it once was. That makes it even more difficult to look past the set's aggravating backlight problems

Many aspects of its pictures are great ; The freesat HD tuner works well ; Reasonable amount of features

Backlight inconsistencies ; Flimsy online system ; No Freeview HD tuner ; Rather drab design

Conclusion As well as having its freesat HD tuner rendered less impressive by the arrival of Freeview HD, the Sony Bravia KDL-32V5810's problems showing dark scenes are really pretty tough to swallow at this price. There are better TVs out there

Sony Bravia KDL-32V5810 32in LCD TV

With integrated Freesat tuner, the Sony Bravia KDL-32V5810 LCD TV looks good for its money.

Sony’s attempts to make a built-in Freesat tuner more affordable succeed on some levels, but overall the set doesn't do enough to warrant more than a qualified recommendation - especially if you watch a lot of dark films.

Sony Bravia V5810 (KDL-40V5810) review

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V5810's Web and networking features are disappointing, but, in pretty much every other department, this set puts in a superb performance. As a result, we think it offers great value for money

Fantastic picture quality ; Deep black levels ; Freesat HD tuner

No 100Hz processing ; Slightly uneven backlighting

Conclusion The Sony Bravia KDL-40V5810's Internet and networking features may be a letdown, but this set really delivers in terms of picture quality, and that's what counts. As a result, we think it's not just one of the best-value sets from Sony, but...

Sony Bravia KDL40V 5810 HD TV

The latest Bravia HD TV in Sony's “V” range is this, the KDL40V 5810 and it sports integrated Freesat, Freeview and analogue tuners; Applicast, Live Colour and 24P True Cinema along with all the other Bravia goodies.

Price, easy set up, picture quality, eco modes, speakers, slimmer design, great connectivity

Uneven illumination in low eco mode, Applicast's limitations

Sony has done a good job on its updated V-series HD TV range and the 40V 5810 is a good example with a nice balance between features, screen size, price and connectivity. And although it's not the top of the tree as far as Sony's higher end models go,...

Sony KDL-32V5810 review

The Sony KDL-32V5810 is one of the first of the electronic giant's HDTVs to come with a built-in Freesat tuner, allowing you to hook it straight up to your satellite dish for a natty selection of cost-free digital channels – including BBC HD and ITV...

Built-in Freesat and solid all-round performance

Occasionally uninspiring picture quality

Integrated Freesat elevates this dependable all-rounder to something quite special
