Sony KDL-40CX523 review

Temptingly affordable LCD with solid performance and a wealth of multimedia options

Excellent Bravia Internet Video service ; Picture quality ; Promising menu system

Chassis feels a little cheap ; Dark scenes can look slightly hollow ; Resolution loss on fast-moving objects

The Sony KDL-40CX523 steers clear of the potential minefield that is 3D, aiming instead for good old-fashioned value for money.

Sony KDL-40CX523

The Sony KDL-40CX523 might be a CCFL LCD TV at the bottom of Sony's new TV range, but its AV quality and excellent Bravia Internet Video features make it good value.

Decent picture quality for the money, Excellent online functionality, Improved operating system

Motion blur, Flimsy build quality, Shortage of shadow detail

Sony KDL-40CX523

Extensive spec includes wireless internet and Skype, bright, vivid images

Backlight inconsistencies, not great with motion, lacks dark-tone detail, aging looks

It’s only too obvious how Sony has gone about hitting this price-point

Sony KDL-40CX523 LCD TV

Review The Bravia KDL-40CX523 is the little net-connected TV that could. Consigned to somewhere near the bottom of Sony's 2011 line-up, and cursed with a CCFL backlight instead of trendy LED bulbs, it's clearly not one of the brand's hero products. Yet...

Affordable LCD TV with the latest Sony UI and Internet TV offerings.
