Product Specifications

Sony's top-of-the-line rear-projection TV is the 53-inch KP-53XBR200. This TV has enough picture-enhancing magic to put a genie out of business. Sony's new technology, Digital Reality Creation, doesn't spawn universes in your living room, unless you're watching A Brief History of Time. It enacts the almost godlike feat of upconverting interlaced analog video to interlaced digital video. Picture quality in this mode is out of this world. It's not widescreen 16: 9, but just about everything else sounds like it's from the future. The CRTs are dubbed Microfocus to denote their extended definition, which receives further enhancement by way of a 3D digital comb filter. The filter reduces video noise by scanning lines within a video frame and making acute digital adjustments. If this Sony's augmented picture is the cake, then there's a couple hundred of birthdays worth of icing. A multi-image driver allows you to simultaneously view two pictures side-by-side, even from two different signal sources, so you can have picture-in-picture with the ball game and WebTV, for example. Conventional PIP with two tuners is also included, as is a comprehensive on-screen program guide. Not that you're going to miss the opportunity to make this set the center of your home theater, but just in case, Sony included a 80-watt audio system with five channels of Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound (rear speakers are actually located in the cabinet). To speed integration into dream-theater, there are four sets of A/V inputs out back and one in front, all with S-video. Three A/V outs are also present, as is a component video input for seamless transmission from your high-end DVD.
