Trinitrons still rock

Classic Trinitron picture. I didn't have to redecorate the living room yet.

It's not Hi-Def.You can't hang it like a picture.

Sharper Image

I seldom buy any product without thoroughly researching it. I spent months researching my Nakamichi AV-10 receiver and weeks before I bought my Viewsonic 19" Monitor. I spent twenty minutes before buying this Sony television.

excellent TV with plenty functionality

Browsing Sunday paper ads, this is one of those SONY items that is never on sale or always "on-sale" for the same price. I got a price break from buying open box. As previous reviewer noted, the SONY TV is heavier than other brands, because...

Expensive, But Worth It

I've only owned a few TV brands so far. Of the TVs I've had, the Sonys have by far been the most expensive, but also the most superior. My current model, the 27" Trinitron with S-video and PIP S46 model, clocked in at a little over $500 (those...

Best without PIP

I bought this one because s42 is out of stock. I found one tube pip is no of use to me. First I never use PIP at all and even if I do, I will probably like two tube PIP so that I can watch two channels at the same time. SO I will suggest either go with...

why one tube PIP?

To Digital, or Not Too Digital

Everybody who is looking for a television faces a very major question: do they buy a television for today or for tomorrow? This may sound a bit cryptic, so, to clarify, let me explain what's going on with television broadcasting today.

Decent set at a decent price

Color a bit too colorful

Great TV for a dorm room

Heading off to college, I knew I would need a TV to keep me entertained--heaven knows the professors wouldn't! Being a movie buff, as well as an amateur producer/director (not a successful one, but I enjoy in nonetheless), I wanted something with a...

Product Specifications

The Sony 27" Stereo Color TV is the must-have set with the most wanted features. Digital Comb Filter separation circuitry provides finer detail, richer colors, less color blooming, and reduced "hanging dots", for a dramatically improved picture. Broadcast Stereo with dbx Noise Reduction/SAP improves the clarity and fidelity of stereo broadcasts by restoring dynamic range and suppressing unwanted noise. Simulated surround systems create a phantom center channel, expand the front left and right channels and place virtual surround speakers around you, simulating the effects of a multichannel system. Bass + Treble Controls allow you to adjust the bass (lower) and treble (higher) frequencies of the music to your own individual listening tastes. This television incorporates the picture tube that made Sony Famous: the legendary, patented Trinitron CRT. From the Inside out, it's fundamentally different from conventional color picture tubes. Other picture tubes require a Shadow Mask with thousands of horizontal cross-bars that prevent electrons from reaching the screen. But Sony's exclusive Aperture Grille takes the form of vertical slits that continue unbroken from the top of the screen to the bottom. Most television screens are "spherical" - curved left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Only the Sony Trinitron picture tube has a cylindrical screen that's vertically flat from top to bottom! You see richer contrast for greater viewing excitement. Built-in Closed Caption Decoder displays the audio portion of a program as text on the TV screen (when program is aired with the encoded signal). Sleep Timer automatically turns off the power after a preset time period for those times when you drift off to sleep during use. Trilingual On-Screen Display allows the on-screen menu system to be displayed in either French, English or Spanish. V-Chip Parental Control puts control back into the hands of the viewer by blocking unwanted television broadcasts. How do you move around in today's multi-multi-channel universe? With the Sony Speed Surf system! Simply press and hold the channel Up/Down buttons for a lightning-quick trip that will get you from channel 5 to channel 155 faster than you'd thought possible! Channel Fix assigns a specific TV channel (3, for example) for cable box control. Lets you control a compatible cable box via the TV remote.
