Sony XBR-65Z9D

Sony's XBR-Z9D series of 4K TVs pack strong color performance and Android TV with Google Assistant into some very bright panels, but light bloom and input lag are concerns.

Very bright. Accurate colors. Google Assistant voice support.

Expensive for an LED. Light bloom issues. High input lag.

The Sony Z9D series looks very good, with one of the brightest pictures and strongest contrasts we've seen. But considering its price and flagship status, issues like light bloom and a poor input lag rate are difficult to get past when compared with...

Sony Z series: Brighter, more expensive TVs up to 100 inches

Starting at $7K for the 65-inch size and going up to an undisclosed sum for 100 inches, Sony's latest sets challenge OLED with unprecedented brightness and all kinds of cutting edge HDR goodness.

Sony XBR Z9D SERIES 4K HDR TV Review – 65 and 75 inch (XBR65Z9D, XBR75Z9D)

After unveiling their 2016 XBR-XD series 4K HDR LCD TVs in early to mid-2016 with the priciest X940D model as the flagship of these excellent televisions for what many thought would be the rest of the year, Sony surprised many tech watchers and...

Extraordinary local dimming performance ; 600+ local dimming zones ; Amazing peak brightness ; Best non-4K content upscaling we’ve ever seen ; Excellent color and motion handling performance ; Fantastic delivery of HDR

Not quite as good as OLED on the whole ; Speakers are strictly mid-grade ; Could deliver deeper blacks ; Too expensive

The XBR-Z9D 4K TVs are probably the best 4K LCD types we’ve yet seen or reviewed and some of their specs are simply mind blowing when they deliver video on this TV’s screen. For these reasons, we absolutely love the Z9D. That said, we’d love to see...

Sony XBR-65Z9D UHD LED/LCD TV Reviewed

Adrienne Maxwell reviews Sony's flagship LED/LCD TV. The 65-inch XBR-65Z9D uses a full-array backlight with local dimming, it supports HDR and a wide color gamut, and it features the Android TV smart platform.

If I may quote Neil Diamond (or The Monkees), I'm a believer. Sony's XBR-65Z9D is simply a fantastic Ultra HD TV that excels in every performance category. Now that I've seen it in action myself, I understand why Sony intends to keep it at the top of...

Sony XBR-65Z9D review

Sony's 2016 flagship TV sets new standards

Stunning HDR picture quality ; Brilliant SDR picture quality ; Ground-breaking backlight ; Excellent presets

Android TV feels sluggish ; Pretty average audio ; It’s expensive ; Limited effective viewing angle

Although its $5,500 price will likely put the 65Z9D frustratingly beyond the reach of most AV fans, its combination of ground-breaking contrast, color and brightness turns adds up to the most cutting-edge picture quality we’ve ever seen. At $5,500...
