The LE32A55 reaches down to the kind of black level depths that are normally only negotiated by plasma
Lovely colours ; Decent black levels ; Friendly, well-featured and stylish
Conspicuously blocky motion ; So-so Freeview performance
The generally delightful experience thus far will have you eagerly anticipating some seriously classy pictures from the Samsung, and the set just about manages to deliver on that promise

Sharps most recent Aquos LCD TVs have taken a massive leap upwards in terms of sound and picture performance, and nowhere is this more true than in the LC-37B20E.
Great black-levels ; No motion judder ; good connectivity
default picture and sound settings aren’t always the best
Not that you should need to; the Aquos LC-37B20Es own built-in speakers do a credible job of relaying the on-screen action to your ears - it certainly does a much better than job that many rival LCD TVs, and also betters the performance of previous ...

The PS50P96FD is a usual Samsung looker and makes all the right connectivity moves
Vibrant colours ; Highly detailed hi-def pictures ; Excellent black levels
Reds can appear slightly orangey ; Poor audio ; Some motion blur
The question is, can we put up with such relative trivialities in the face of so much quality elsewhere and that remarkably affordable price? The answer is a resoundingly positive single word

There's little for hi-def fans to get excited about with Sharp's LC32D44E
Strong Freeview images ; Nice price ; User-friendly
Motion blur ; Dodgy hi-def pictures ; Lacking in features
Colours are well saturated while the LC32D44E manages a reasonably good attempt at reproducing blacks

Despite some connectivity disappointments, this TV's pictures are a joy to behold
Impressive styling ; Excellent colour and greyscale rendition ; Calibration-friendly
Black levels could be better ; No provision for keystone correction
The panel is HD Ready, with a 1366 x 768 resolution, and although other manufacturers have 1080p 32in LCDs on the market, that's really an overindulgence for such a screen size

This TV looks like nothing youâ-'ve ever seen and yet still manages to out-perform most of its fuller-bodied rivals
Stunning looks ; Fabulous colours ; A pleasure to use
Ordinary black levels ; No tuner
The latter is a real throwback, with large rubbery buttons and a sparse, Fisher-Price-type aesthetic that seems peculiarly incongruous when set against the achingly futuristic slither of a screen it's supposed to control

The TX-32LZD85 is every bit as sublime at showing standard and high definition material as its rivals
Good connectivity ; outstanding pictures ; full HD panel
Very minor flicker over some fast-moving edges
Yet more good news comes with the black levels, which get way deeper than is common with LCD and help make dark gaming and video moments much more involving and credible

The LC46LX2E might not be quite perfect, but it certainly is a mighty fine HD monitor
Well-connnected ; Bright pictures ; Great HD performance ; Strong black levels
Poor SD performance ; Some motion smearing
Finally in the plus column, colours are vibrant and bright. But, it also has to be said that occasionally colours aren't completely natural in tone: some skin tones end up looking a bit over-ripe

Where some rival sets can seem a connectivity desert, this Panny, in comparison, is a socket-spattered Amazonian jungle
Smooth, judder-less pictures ; Great ---surround--- sound effect
Picture foible during sport and gaming (with 100Hz on) ; A little backlight bleed
More dramatic improvement, while using Panasonic's proprietary version of the picture processing wizardry, is in evidence during regular television viewing, specifically with channels or shows that use horizontally-scrolling text

â--Unquestionably the TVâ-'s most vital feature is its Kuro technology, which delivers revolutionary picture qualityâ--
Our experience with previous Pioneer KURO plasmas means we know the PDP-LX508D is going to be a cracker before we even switch it on. A more interesting question to ask is whether it's sufficiently better than Pioneer's 508XD - the comparatively-sized, ...
