Picture with HD sources ; Low price
Crude overall performance ; Flimsy build ; Operational niggles
The one most likely to drive you into a techno-cidal rage is the remote control. It's an ugly brute, for a start, with the company's usual large, glow-in-the-dark keys set in a lightweight zapper that looks like it has escaped from the 1980s

As a pure 32in gaming machine this Sharp LCD is heaven sent
1080p resolution ; Smooth motion ; Clean picture ; Onscreen menus
Black levels ; Lack of depth
Going back to colours, they're superbly saturated - ideal for gaming - yet decently natural when winding down from some hard racing with a little TV viewing

We found this pretty LCD TV extremely easy to use
Easy to use ; Vibrant, rich pictures ; Competitive price
Not Full HD ; Motion smearing ; Poor black levels
Sonically, the set is surprisingly good considering it has no visible speakers, combining expansive soundstage dynamics with some solid bass. Some effects can sound too dislocated from the screen, mind

â--High definition pictures are simply bursting with colour, sharply-detailed and impressively judder-freeâ--
Superb HD and video pictures ; Great connecitivity, Superb black level response ; vibrant colours ; 100Hz picture processing
Slight processing lag ; Not Full HD, Lack of fine details in shadows ; a green tinge to blacks
On the downside, black levels are good but not ground-breaking. Some dark objects look a little pale, particularly when you move off centre, but shadow detail during dark scenes is excellent

The 37LT75 renders HD with impressive precision and detailing for a non-full HD screen
Impressive recording ; Good price ; Easy to use
Average black levels ; Poor 1080p/24fps handling
Lastly, the set's audio is perfectly adequate, given how small its speakers are

The L37X01 provides some good pictures despite poor black levels
Good motion handling ; Impressive colours
Average black levels ; Some processing options
The L37X01 is a decent enough audio performer, meanwhile. It lacks that extra bit of raw power that distinguishes the very best flat TV audio, but voices sound rich and distinct, treble details are reasonably clear and there's even a solid attempt to ...

The Connect 37 has a secret weapon: an optional built-in HDD recorder
Stylish design ; Fantastic features ; Superb audio
Expensive ; Confusing user menus
Meanwhile, if you're watching HD and you want to call in the TV's pixel-by-pixel 'no overscanning' mode, you have to choose a '16:9 PC' setting. Highly illogical

Visually the set is a wow, complete with an excellent user interface
From there it's a short hop to the -advanced- menu where black level, white balance, gamma, red/ green bias and the all-important noise reduction can be tinkered with and saved under an -expert- setting

The JVC 32DA8BJ is a rather flimsily-built and blandly-styled affair
Great HD pictures ; Impressive scaling
Dodgy black levels ; Dull styling
The TV also delivers the detail and clarity of the HD image with aplomb - a reminder of just how good DynaPix's scaling engine can be

The 37PX80 impresses with its much improved natural and vibrant colours
On the down side, some deep reds can end up looking slightly orange, and HD images don't look quite as pristine as they do on a good full HD TV
