Toshiba 40E220U review: Medium thrills, small budget

Back in 2008, Toshiba took a beating when its HD DVD format lost the format wars against Blu-ray. Four years later, the enforced focus on LCD has resulted in solid budget TVs like the Toshiba 32C120U and now the Toshiba 40E220U.

The Toshiba 40E220U features crisp images with a decent amount of contrast. The TV offers a good value and is one of the better units under $500. Colors are well-saturated.

The TV shows uniformity problems and some of the colors are inaccurate. Shadow detail is lacking compared with the cheaper TCL P60.

The Toshiba 40E220U is a value-for-money television offering decent contrast and bright, vivid colors.

Toshiba 40E220U

A 40-inch no-frills display that only does one thing. For an MSRP of $499, that's not unreasonable.

An affordable HDTV that doesn't have many flaws

Toshiba 40E220U

The Toshiba 40E220U really is pretty average, but average can be a good thing. Most consumers will be delighted with the look and picture quality, though they may not like the higher energy consumption rate. Just make sure that you can make do with the...

You can adjust advanced color settings, such as color temperature

This LCD TV consumes a lot of electricity and has minimal connection options of an LCD TV

The Toshiba 40E220U's picture quality and technical specs are all pretty average.

Great TV; performs well

The remote feels pretty cheap, and it's hard to get it at the right angle sometimes

Overall fantastic

Very pleased with the purchase and the price we paid.

The TV has been great. We've had no issue with the quality of the picture nor it's feature set. All the plugs available are great as well as I run an HDMI cable from my computer to it as well

It is fairly slow turning on, but that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Not enough for me to deduct from it

Newegg Did Me Right

The first TV Newegg sent me was DOA. No fault of Newegg's as it must have come from the factory that way. Newegg treated me well and had a new one shipped to me in time for a party I bought the original one for ; This TV is a very good performer. It...

Great TV for the Price!!

Great price for a darn good TV. I bought this one to replace a $3000 Sony LCD 52" that died after only 3 years. Its works great. Nice clean picture with good color saturation. Very easy to set up. Didn't have to "tweak" the settings to get the best...

Great price. Good Picture and Clarity. Easy to set up and use

The audio is a little flat with very little low end. It has RCA analog audio outputs so I hooked up a couple of good powered speakers which made a big difference. Not a big deal

Love this TV

For the price this TV is a great TV, especially for someone entering into the flat screen TV market. I paid a total of $384.99 with free shipping.

I bought this TV at on June 24th and received it June 27th. After hooking this baby up and adjusting the power feature to the off position(the picture sucks with it on)I used the composite jack on it to run my DVD and satellite till Directv...

My only complaint seems to be with the sound. Now I have my TV hooked up to a sound system so this is kind of a non-issue for me, but for those without it could be a problem. The sound coming from the TV is incredibly low, even turned up to 50. I have...
