Toshiba 40RL858 review

If you're looking for a connected Freeview HD TV minus the 3D, the Toshiba 40RL858 is slim and stylish, with a variety of streaming services

Sleek design and thin bezel ; Streaming IPTV services ; Decent media playback from USB

Shrill audio ; No Resolution+ processing ; Shonky network media playback

When it comes to design and feature spread, the affable Toshiba 40RL858 is certainly on the right path. While there are some infuriatingly rough edges when it come to network media playback (stick to playing files from local USB for the best results),...

Toshiba 40RL858 review

Toshiba doesn't actually manufacture the panels and tech inside its TVs, but this 40-incher provides yet more proof of why – as a brand – it continues to be one of the most popular around. One word: value. There's no sniff of absolute top quality here,...

Price, BBC iPlayer, digital media support, versatile picture quality

No Wi-Fi, audio, user interface quirks, Toshiba Places

Lacks pizzazz and must-have appeal, but an extraordinarily thin bezel and good value pictures make this a decent budget buy.

Toshiba 40RL858B review

A versatile mid-range Edge LED TV offering excellent value for money

Good value ; Slim bezel ; Freeview HD & Blu-ray pictures ; BBC iPlayer ; Comprehensive digital file support

Poor Freeview EPG ; Poor sound ; Toshiba Places lacks content ; No built-in Wi-Fi ; Some LED light leakage

A good value TV for a living room, Toshiba's 40RL858 is a classic mid-range set whose attempt at a smart TV platform is the low point on an otherwise capable performer. What it lacks in ultimate quality and ease of use it makes up for with versatility.

Toshiba 40RL858 TV review

We're increasingly living in a connected world. Last year, 400 of the world's 600 million broadband homes deployed home networking technology. By 2015, upwards of 700 million homes will be running local networks. Small wonder then that TV makers have...

Slim design; Freeview HD; BBC iPlayer; USB media playback

Average build quality; limited media support across a LAN; thin audio; lacklustre Smart portal

Toshiba 40RL858B review

Stylish looks and impressive performance with HD material can't hide the fact that the Internet features on the Toshiba 40RL858B are below par and its onboard speakers are weak.

Good standard-definition upscaling ; Sharp HD pictures ; Strong black performance for the price ; Stylish design

Internet and media streaming features lag behind the competition ; Colour performance with standard-definition material could be better ; Below-par speakers

The 40RL858B is a stylish-looking set and its performance with HD content is impressive. Standard-definition pictures aren't quite as good, but it's really the below-par Internet features and poor audio quality that let this model down.

Toshiba Regza 40RL858 40in LED TV

Review Toshiba is a bit of a wild card when it comes to TVs. While some of its screens are genuinely exciting, others are merely bargain bin fillers. Buying a cheaper Tosh is a classic case of caveat emptor.

40in LED edge-lit set with IPTV extras.

Toshiba 40RL858B

The speakers may not be great but if you pay this much then you should have enough dough for some good speakers. The TV looks amazing and the picture from what I can hear is brilliant. I am not a fan of Internet TV viewing as it only works if your in a...

The style and the picture sound impressive

I am not a fan of Internet TV viewing anyway so nothing
