Toshiba 40G300U

The Toshiba 40G300U ($899 MSRP) is a 40-inch LCD television that offers a decent number of features, but seems to fall a little short of the competition. What features there are, however, are useful and well-implemented

This isn't the most attractive TV. It's a little fat in the back, with a stubby stand and a thick bezel. The remote control is a mess of bright, white buttons, but because it's a fully programmable universal remote we can accept the aesthetic...

The 46G300U offers surprisingly deep black levels, but we noticed issues with color temperature consistency.

Toshiba 40G300U

A scientific, in-depth analysis with side-by-side comparisons

The Toshiba 40G300U ($899 MSRP) is not a perfect TV, and not even the best LCD at the same price point (that would probably go to the Samsung LN40C630). It offers surprisingly deep black levels, but we noticed issues with color temperature consistency...

Toshiba 40G300U LCD HDTV Reviewed

Part of Toshiba's 2010 lineup, the G300 Series is a mid-level series that lacks some of the higher-end features found in the company's top-shelf offerings, such as LED backlighting, ClearScan 240Hz, Resolution+, and NET TV. The G300 Series includes...

This TV has a 1080p resolution and will accept 24p sources via its HDMI inputs ; ClearFrame 120Hz technology effectively reduces motion blur, with a separate Film Stabilization mode to address film judder ; LCDs can be very bright, which makes them a...

This TV uses a traditional CCFL backlight, so its black level willlikely not be as deep as you'll find in the better full-array LED-basedLCDs with local dimming ; LCD viewing angles are not as good as you'll find with a plasma TV ; The 40G300U lacks 3D...

The 40G300U doesn't offer all the benefits youget with higher-end Toshiba models, but it is a 1080p display with fourHDMI inputs and the all-important 120Hz technology needed to reducemotion blur in an LCD. Plus, it boasts digital-media perks like...

HDMI issues.

I paid about $580 to my door. You get what you pay for, so other than the cropping issue I'm happy with it.

Its my first LCD tv, so I can't really compare it to anything else. Looks cool. I use it as a second monitor on my computer to watch animae and youtube

Two eggs because I have two problems with it ; The remote sucks. Buttons are hard to press and I can only get the volume to work ; HDMI input from my computer gets cropped down to about 1800x990. Thought it was my video card, but I tried it with a...

Be wary of Toshiba

Nice picture and features

Be wary of Toshiba. Life is great when everything works. I bought a similar TV last March, super picture right out of the box, …until it shut itself off. It started doing that regularly. A service tech made 3 visits to the house, changed out some...

Excellent TV!

I have only owned this TV for a day so far, but I must say I am very impressed at this point. I played my trusty Star Trek Blu-ray for comparison to the TV this replaces, which was a 56'' Samsung DLP that failed me after only 2 years. Highly...

Low price ; Great picture quality ; Top notch build quality ; Plenty of connectivity

Don't be scared of Toshiba!

I haven't challenged this HDTV all that much but I really like what I have seen so far. The colors are rich and real with the default settings. No over-washed skin tone or overly red skin tones. Very balanced color, texture and motion with this HDTV....

Picture is great! All the features you need..."need" being the operative word. It doesn't have any internet built-in but you can buy gadget and make it an internet HDTV for less than you would pay for an internet HDTV ; There's plenty of connections on...

Only has an optical audio out but most receivers have an optical in port so it's not so bad ; Newegg used a budget shipper (free shipping) that didn't have very good tracking but in the end, it arrived one day earlier than the original estimated...

was able to return it

Remote only works if it is pointed precisely within a small area ; Menu navigation extremely slow and tedious ; Does not save picture size setting when turned off ; Corners of screen are lighter ; Flickering problems when using HDMI connected to game...

Good Television

The TV works as advertised and looks good but, the features that are touted with this TV are not what they're cracked up to be. I would suggest purchasing a media device like the Western Digital Plus or the new Logitech Revue to get a full fledged...

Setup is simple, network connection works great, and HD is High Definition. Very light in weight and looks great when setup

Menus are clunky, the network feature is clunky as well and with my experience only recognizeds .mpg format files. I attempted to factory reset the TV several times and there was an issue with all settings clearing

Product Specifications

The G300 Series is perfect for sports enthusiasts and action movie fans alike. ClearFrame 120Hz doubles the video frames from 60 per second to 120 per second, to virtually eliminate motion blur. Whether watching a football player angling toward the end zone, or eagerly following a high speed movie chase, the picture is crisp and clear.
