Toshiba 32HL833 review

For this review we tested the 32in model in the HL833 range, but it's also available in a 42in screen size (KDL-42HL833). That model has identical specifications except for its dimensions and power usage. We're confident that image quality will be...

Great multimedia support and decent image quality isn’t enough to compete with Sony’s Freeview HD and internet-enabled CX523

Toshiba 42HL833

While the 42HL833 is okay, it does also remind us that the simple act of putting edge LED lighting in an LCD TV doesn't automatically produce a better picture than a good CCFL screen can.

It's very cheap for a 42in edge LED TV ; Decent USB multimedia flexibility ; Pictures sometimes look impressive

No Freeview HD tuner ; No DLNA or online features ; Contrast/backlight flaws

Toshiba’s entry-level 42in full HD TV is a likeable enough effort, but doesn’t do anything truly special. It’s at its strongest as a basic TV, showing typical TV broadcasts, or when showing bright Blu-rays like an animated movie. Its talent for...

Toshiba Regza HL (42HL833B) review

The Toshiba Regza 42HL833B is cheap for a 42-inch LED TV, but its poor audio, average pictures and lack of Internet features mean it's not particularly good value for money.

Perky colours ; Good black levels ; Appealing design

No hi-def Freeview tuner ; Only two HDMI ports ; Below-par audio

Toshiba can do better than the Regza 42HL833B. The scarcity of ports, lack of Internet features and average picture quality means it isn't as good value as it seems. If you're looking for a low-cost telly that doesn't skimp on features, we'd recommend...

You get what you pay for...

The TV arrived well packed. The screen picture had shadowing and bleeding; When not channelled through the sky box, the picture struggled to focus and pixelating was excessive. The sound faded in/out and eventually died out completely. The remote...

Brilliant but one thing...

OK so, this TV is better than any other that I have had, brilliant size and value and quality most of all, but when setting it up with my PS3 I realised that most of my games were 720p, no problem I'll just set it up at 720p, but no... I have to play...

Good for the price paid

I ordered this on Tuesday in a Lightening Sale. I was almost put off by some of the complaints I read on the 5 reviews, but on balance thought it worth the risk purchasing, especially at £299. I would not have paid £500+ for this as the RRP is said to...

Surprisingly Good Value

This TV has kept giving good service since I bought it mainly for XBox gaming. I must say that the built in tuner is surprisingly good quality if you need to watch TV. As a computer monitor and Xbox display it is spectacular for 1080p full HD. Crystal...

Toshiba 32HL833B

This TV may be advertised as the best thing since sliced bread and the picture is excellent but the sound is abysmal. My 15 year old 'big box' TV had better sound than this model. If you are thinking of buying one then you had better factor in spending...
