Panasonic TX-P50G30B review

This 50-inch plasma is one the best 2D TVs you can buy

Smooth, fluid and cinematic hi-def images ; Viera Connect portal ; Tidy design and solid build quality ; Plenty of picture tweaks available

Lack of uniformity across the menus ; Remote control needs revamping ; Bland audio performance ; Average brightness

Panasonic has had such success with its 3D plasma TVs over the last year that it's a wonder the TX-P50G30B even exists.

Panasonic TX-P50G30

With the 50in TX-P50G30, Panasonic takes a break from 3D to serve up a very affordable and typically talented 2D-only option.

Excellent picture quality ; Affordable for a 50in Panasonic plasma ; Good multimedia features

Not the brightest picture ; Some jaggedness with 50Hz sources ; Not helpful for wall mounting

Surprisingly, the P50G30 isn’t quite just the the P50GT30 minus 3D we’d expected it to be; it’s also got a chunkier design than its 3D brother, and features a watered down Infinite Black variant versus the P50GT30’s ‘Pro’ version. And it doesn’t have...

The picture quality when watching films is amazing. It's relatively easy to use, you can work out most of it intuitively without reading the instructions, although you'll get a lot more out of the TV if you do! You can also watch BBC iPlayer if you...

Sold as a "Smart TV", which will hopefully get better as they do release regular software updates, however, at the moment this only includes BBC iPlayer. 4oD , ITV and others cannot be access through the TV's Internet capabilities directly. The sound...

Panasonic TX-P50G30

This plasma has good pictures still sharp on freeview standard def pics and natural looking colours compared to LCD's. HD pics very nice. Movement in pics much better than any LCD/LED I've seen. Not paying the premium for 3D which I'm not interested in.

Sound a bit thin like any other thin tv with narrow speakers. Fine for watching the news though. I always use an external amp and speakers anyway.
