Vizio RP56

 

A bargain-priced though flawed first-time offering from Vizio. This RPTV has some thoughtful features, but there are too many problems with its image quality.

Fairly good image quality viewing HD and DVD content. Competitively priced. Nice extras.

Narrow range of optimal vertical viewing angles. Audio subsystem is so-so. Black-level uniformity is not good. Front panel causes some image distortion.

Performance

 

Vizio RP56

Relatively inexpensive; excellent connectivity; versatile PIP; bright, incredibly detailed image; robust, low-maintenance technology; wide viewing angle.

Ho-hum styling; pricier than similar-size CRT rear projectors and some comparable DLPs; rainbow effects; grayish blacks in darker scenes; inaccurate color.

The decent performance of this DLP HDTV is overshadowed by its unattractive styling and high price.
