LG is a brand desperate to improve its image. Having seen chief rival Samsung elevate itself to premium status through consistently good design and adventurous technology, it clearly thinks a copycat strategy will pay dividends
Attractive price, Good looking, Good connections
Awful presets, Standard-def images fail to impress, Average audio
Its the cheapest brand name 42-inch plasma out there, but you'll need to invest in pricey HD sources to get the best from it

Having been highly impressed by its TX-32LXD70, we've high hopes indeed for Panasonic's new 26in model, the TX-26LMD70. But, how many corners has Panasonic cut to hit the appealing £660 price?
Strong connections for the price, Impressive pictures
No 100Hz Motion Picture Pro
The price astounds, and this entry-level LCD has a surprising amount packed into its slender frame too

Panasonic may be busy extolling the virtues of plasma over LCD technology right now, but that hasn't stopped it from packing its 32-inch LCD 32LXD70 with cutting edge processing and construction techniques
Vreal2 picture processing, Great viewing angle
The usual LCD problems with black levels
An excellent LCD offering from Panasonic

The Toshiba 37C3030 37in LCD TV has much to prove, as we were distinctly underwhelmed by the manufacturer's 32in 32C3030. Still, the TV gets off to a positive start in the appearance stakes, combining smart black minimalism with solid build quality
Good looks, Strong connections, Impressive fine detail
Some flaws in darker images, Problems with SD artefacts
This 37-inch offering sees the manufacturer clawing its way back to favour with a good enough LCD TV for the price tag

It's not always about being the very best or the cheapest. What many punters really want is a TV that offers a good balance between cost, performance and features - a description that fits Samsung's PS50Q97HD to the letter.
Excellent connectivity, High contrast ratio
Not 1080p
This all-rounder of a plasma is another runaway success story for the manufacturer - all at an appealing price too

Uniquely expansive though Philips' flat TV range is, we still didn't expect to find this premium manufacturer providing such a cheap 50-inch plasma option. But we're certainly not complaining - as long as the £1,300 50PF7521D isn't rubbish, of course
Price that's hard to beat, Reasonable features, Surprising HD pictures
Problems with skin tones
This 50-inch plasma TV breaks new pricing ground - and the compromises aren't as hard to swallow as you would think

We've loved Pioneer's recent plasma TVs, but there is one thing they've lacked - size. Although 50in is all very nice, the home cinema groupie in us has been crying out for Pioneer to think bigger.
Plenty of image processing wizardry, Superb HD picture, Excellent motion handling
Some minor standard-def issues, Quite pricey
Bigger really is better if you can spare the cash and the space, as this 60-inch gas giant effortlessly demonstrates

Hitachi's plasma reputation is an enviable one, forged on the back of consistently combining impressive performance with aggressive pricing. So we have high hopes indeed for its £1,500 50in plasma TV, the P50T01U
Good features and connections, Superb picture detail
Slow menus, Disappointing black levels, Noisy skin tones
There's plenty to like about the P50T01U, but improvements could be made to the all-important pictures

Rear projection is dead, apparently, murdered by its flat rivals LCD and plasma. But if this is really the case, then the 70R2000 is one hell of a zombie. For not only is Sony's latest TV resolutely rear-projecting, but it's also a massive 70-inch model
Awesome features and performance, Great prize for its size
So big it may need its own room
It's enormous but delivers a performance every bit as big as its dimensions

Samsung's R7 LCD TVs sold like hot cakes thanks to their sumptuous looks, solid performance and aggressive pricing. So, we're eager to see if these models' successors - as represented today by the 32in LE-32R87 - can continue the success story
Great price, Impressive connections, Decent picture performance
Some motion-handling flaws
This stunning-looking TV strikes a winning balance between low price and improved high-def picture performance
