Although an inch short of being the biggest LCD TV in our group test, JVC's 46DZ7BJ certainly has plenty of other claims to fame. For starters, it has a strikingly small footprint, made possible by an 'invisible' speaker system
'Hidden' speakers, Superb HD image quality
Black levels not perfect, Ultra-detailed approach can exacerbate artefacts
A highly accomplished and stylish LCD only slightly let down by a few niggles

Never afraid to do its own thing, Fujitsu has forged its own path once more by positioning its latest plasma as a custom installation device. As such, it has no TV tuner or Scarts, as Fujitsu expects anyone buying one will use mainly a high-def source ...
Excellent black levels, Hardly a trace of noise
No Scart or TV tuner, Poor standard-def picture
Fujitsu's best high-definition effort yet, but its standard-def performance is a little disappointing

Look up 'confusing' in the dictionary and you'll find the words LG 42PC1D and LG 42PC1DV side by side. For remarkably, while the names of these two TVs look practically identical, the extra V on this one hides a multitude of differences
Good black levels, Decent price
Far too much noise
It's cheap, but unfortunately its quality is just about as low as its price

Another day, another of Philips' seemingly endless run of LCD TVs. The 37PF9631D is one of the brand's higher-end TVs - which is apparent from its looks, which combine exceptionally heavy duty build quality with real designer panache
Responsive and detailed picture, Decent sound
Slightly limited colour range, Some lack of detail from dark images
By no means perfect but the pros certainly outweigh the cons

With its £600 price tag, Evesham's Alqemi 32SX is among the most affordable 32in high definition televisions around. But, don't read 'affordable' as 'cheap and nasty': there's more crammed into this TV than you'd expect...
Decent looking, Good picture performance, Menus easy to navigate
Sound quality not great, Plasticky, difficult-to-use remote
It's not as polished as it could be, but you get big performance for the price

Plenty of its rivals have their charms, admittedly, but this LG is the supermodel of the pack. It's partly because of the glamour of its high-gloss finish, partly because of the eye-catching 'block' stand connection
Good overall hi-def performance, Impressive value for money
Disappointing standard-def images, Unexceptional sound
It doesn't have class-leading performance, but at its price point you won't get much better

It's usually the case that where a traditionally PC brand decides to make a TV, it tries to make it as cheap as possible. And that's exactly the case with Acer's AT3720: it's a snip at £800. It certainly looks cheap, thanks to its plasticky build
Decent HD image sharpness, Black levels avoid greyness, Well-saturated bright colours
No digital tuner, Poor auto-tuning, Darker images lack depth, Heavy motion smearing in standard-def images
It's certainly cheap, but it would have to be a fair bit cheaper to justify its many disappointments

On paper Dell's 3706MC looks like it could be one of the more successful PC-to- AV crossover products we've come across. It's got a digital tuner built in, it's HD Ready, it packs an impressive sounding 30W of audio power
Good connections
Very disappointing picture performance
A classic idea of a good idea in theory failing to live up to its promise

A Freeview PVR that costs the same as Sky's HD receiver might seem expensive, but there's much more to Evesham's iPlayer than meets the eye. Not only is it equipped with an 80GB hard disk and a Freeview tuner
HD Ready, Excellent quality
High price
When you consider the amount of value-adding features on board, £300 starts to look pretty reasonable

With so many digital picture sources now clamouring for your TV's attention - Sky HD box, Blu-ray players, HD DVD players, and soon Sony's PS3 games console - we're becoming increasingly annoyed by the shortage of HDMIs
Picture processing works well
Only two Scarts
The Toshiba gets a lot of things right but is let down slightly by some picture quality issues
