Nothing complements an intense fragfest or cinematic epic like the splendor of a giant 1080p screen. Unfortunately, leveling-up to a truly king-sized HDTV has traditionally meant parting with an ungodly sum of cash. Not so with Mitsubishi's WD-837 ...
Friggin' huge! Bountiful picture-tweaking controls. Surprisingly bright for a rear-projection set
Making use of this 3-D-ready set requires a boatload of extra gear and a titanic amount of extra money. Horrendous menu interface. Tiny, cramped remote is one of the worst we've ever used

Think of Samsung's 46-inch 7000 as an aspiring model: impossibly thin, well put together, and connected to the Net 24/7. (It has a name you can't pronounce, too.) To attain the set's waifish profile, Samsung replaced the standard fluorescent backlight ...
At 1.2 inches thick and with all its input/output jacks on the side rather than the back, this set can be hung like a framed picture. Deep color and 120-Hz-mode refresh adjustments let you dial in picture and processing to suit your taste. ...
Glossy screen picks up quite a bit of glare. Internet widgets load slower than a Uwe Boll torrent. Dynamic-contrast control produces visible pulsing when maxed out

Sony's 120-Hz television delivers terrific video and aces our video-processing tests. But what's more interesting is that Sony has finally integrated streaming video capability right into the set - while also expanding online content options. In ...
Infinite lazy Sundays' worth of streamed Internet content delivered right to its 1080p, 52-inch screen - including Amazon VOD, YouTube, and Netflix. Excellent video processing makes even Web video look good. Beautiful, filmlike picture
Yahoo Widget apps are painfully slow to load. No Wi-Fi

This 42-inch plasma dazzler blew us away with its stunning picture. Unfortunately, its online bona fides didn't measure up. After five minutes of exploring the Viera Cast interface, we wanted to forget about web content altogether. Widget ...
Cheap! Mind-boggling blacks with tons of detail and amazing color saturation. Integrated card reader
TV can't display web content in its picture-in-picture box. No Netflix streaming on the horizon

is the opening credits, your internet mainstays are just a button-push away. You can further expand its video prowess by connecting an external drive loaded with virtually any DivX, MPEG or H.264 video.
Four HDMI inputs. Built-in sensor automatically adjusts LCD's backlighting to suit the room. Tons of picture-tweaking options. Cable-management loop in back. Netflix
Disappointing black levels. 120-Hz motion processing looks even more artificial than usual

When we first heard Westinghouse Digital was making a 42-inch 1080p HDTV for $700, our eyes bugged out. How could a low-budget company like Westinghouse offer up such high resolution for so little? It's no misprint, so naturally we had to get a test ...
High resolution and decent sound at incredible rock-bottom price. Convenience features integrated into menu. Quality remote not found in higher-priced TVs
Displays some pixilated speckled noise in darker and mid-hue images. Analog stations reproduction is downright blurry. No worries though - analogue TV has flatlined

U.S. homes, a new lineup of HDTV sets are already poised to seize the plasma king's vacant throne.
Mind boggling blacks with tons of detail. THX mode is a godsend for movie buffs. Integrated SD card slots transform your plasma into a giant digital photo frame. Amazing color saturation
THX mode is bit dim for brightly lit rooms. Ethernet connectivity is nice for VieraCast, but Wi-Fi would've been better. At the time of testing, no Amazon VOD. Also, where's the Netflix streaming? Staunch calibration DIYers may find the picture ...

This 52-inch LCD's slick menus put many others in our test to shame. But they don't make up for a lack of noise reduction settings, off-balance color, and de-interlacing problems with both video and film sources. Though we do appreciate Westinghouse's ...
Hanging loops on back of case help with cable management. Modern menus are simple to navigate.
No noise reduction adjustment. Off-color LCD makes movies look odd.
