Dyson DC59 Motorhead

Dyson hopes to convince you that its $550 DC59 Motorhead vacuum cleaner can replace your upright. The name "Motorhead" comes from a brush roll that spins via a separate, low-power engine with the intention of increasing carpet agitation and fine...

The Dyson DC59 Motorhead stick vacuum cleaner performed extremely well on both pet hair and fine particles. The design makes it portable, maneuverable, and generally easy to use.

The Motorhead is a marginal upgrade at best over its predecessor, the Animal, and performed worse with big particles. The motor in the brush roll results in relatively poor battery life. It still doesn't outperform the other sticks enough to justify...

Dyson's DC59 competes well enough as a high-end stick vac, but poor battery life and a tendency to clog with large particles hold the DC59 Motorhead back from replacing your full-size upright.

Dyson DC59 Motorhead

The Dyson DC59 Motorhead vacuum adds more floor-sweeping and upholstery-cleaning power to the performance offered by the slightly less expensive DC59 Animal.

More powerful motorized heads are even better at picking up dirt than before. Elegant, simple design. Lots of accessories

Expensive. Dust receptacle is small. Less-than-stellar battery life

We really liked the Dyson DC59 Animal when we tested it earlier this year. The hand-held, cordless vacuum is strong enough to replace an upright model, and its floor cleaning head can cover wide swaths of carpet and hardwood floors. Now Dyson offers a...

Dyson DC59 Motorhead review

With a powder-coated pink body and a name that calls to mind the classic heavy-metal band, the new DC59 Motorhead has a little something for everyone. It's beautifully designed, attractive and convenient – yet powerful and versatile enough that you can...

Lightweight and versatile ; Powerful suction ; Attractive, unique design

Short battery life ; Lack of support, oversimplified manuals

The Dyson DC59 Motorhead has remarkable good looks and can practically pull the fibers out of your carpets, let alone the dirt. If only the battery lasted longer…

Dyson DC59 Animal review

Dyson is a relatively new name in the vacuum industry, yet inventor James Dyson was tinkering with the technology for decades before introducing his own products. Early on he met resistance from major manufacturers when he showed them how to improve...

Lightweight ; Balanced design ; Surprisingly powerful ; Docking station for easy storage

Trigger can tire the finger ; Dirt bin has low capacity ; Boost battery mode very limited

Lightweight, a snap to maneuver and easy on the eyes, the cordless Dyson DC59 Animal is a surprising joy to use. It almost makes cleaning fun. Almost.

Dyson DC59 Animal

Handy, thoughtful design points like trigger-powered suction and easy-to-change attachments make the Dyson DC59 Animal a strong contender in the field of lightweight vacuums. On the other hand, the $499 price tag may scare off all but the most serious...

The Dyson DC59 Animal's trigger means that it vacuums more precisely and saves battery life. Practical attachments and strong performance give this vacuum a boost as well.

A $499 sticker price means that this is without a doubt a luxury purchase, especially since it wasn't a clear winner in terms of performance.

The DC59 is an elegant, customizable vacuum that performed well on a variety of flooring surfaces and with an array of debris types. If you're not looking for a budget-friendly model, you can count on the DC59 to make vacuuming as enjoyable as possible.

Dyson DC59 Motorhead review: Full-sized vacuum power in a 5-pound cordless

Dyson's cordless vacuums are the perfect solution for many people, even if they don't realize it. These vacuums have sufficient battery life to outlast your interest in cleaning, are versatile enough to use in all manner of scenarios, […]

The DC59 Animal was already the best cordless vacuum on the market, and the DC59 Motorhead is better. The Animal doesn’t have any particularly significant flaws, but the Motorhead’s additional suction power and motorized head pieces give it an edge on...

Dyson Digital Slim DC59 review

You reach for the sugar bowl, you miscalculate how far away it is, it goes everywhere. Damn. You go to the cupboard, get out the classic Hoover, look for a plug socket, have to no doubt clamber behind something, unplug something or go so far away that...

Portable, lightweight, good suction, boost button, plenty of accessories in the box

Maximum 20-minute battery life, no power gauge, no swappable battery, small bin

The Digital Slim DC59 shows that Dyson can successfully make a cordless vacuum cleaner that's still powerful. But does it suffer poor suction, battery life and capacity as we touched upon in our opening gambit?

Dyson DC59 Animal cordless vacuum

The DC59 Animal is a powerful, versatile cordless vacuum with outstanding suction

Impressive and powerful suction ; Included accessories are versatile ; Excellent, lightweight design

High price ; Battery life

The Dyson DC59 Animal offers impressively powerful suction, a lightweight, bagless design and includes a detachable wand that offers excellent versatility. However, you'll certainly pay a premium for its convenience.

Dyson DC59

Dyson cuts the cords and lets you clean with ease wherever you need

Versatile cleaning capabilities ; Powerful V6 motor ; Useful trigger system and boost mode

Expensive ; Small dust capacity

With all this said, it does reinforce the fact the Dyson DC59 is really a vacuum cleaner for smaller households. Its size and nimble design make it ideal for small houses and flats, but it’s a tight limit to clean a large family house in 20 minutes –...
