McIntosh C500 Preamplifier Reviewed

McIntosh continues to offer beautiful, albeit expensive components, with the McIntosh C500 stereo preamplifier. But is it worth its price tag? Reviewer Brian Kahn put the C500 to the test to find out

The industrial design and build quality of the C500 is excellent andis as one would expect with a current flagship piece in a maturepremium product line ; The C500's sound quality is intoxicating and will please audiophiles and music lovers alike ; The...

My only sound-quality related criticism of the C500 is that its mid-bass is slightly loose as noted above ; Even though McIntosh has one unit above the C500 in its preamplifierlineup, this is a flagship product and it deserves a remote ofcommensurate...

I could easily live with the McIntosh C500 in my stereo system for avery long time. The C500 combines several desirable soniccharacteristics providing an accurate and detailed picture that ismusical and non-fatiguing to listen to. At $12,000 it is an...

Amazing quality for the price

I originally purchased Microsoft's Lifecam VX-2000 for $20 and thought the quality of that was good. Then when I saw the Logitech C500 on sale ($35) I thought I'd give it a try before returning the Lifecam. Comparing the two side-by-side was like night...

Easy to setup ; Works well with chat programs like Skype, Camfrog, Yahoo, Live ; Works with Windows 7 64-bit ; Good quality video at 1280 x 1024 ; Decent quality microphone ; If you do have to contact Logitech, their support is second to none

Version 2 of the LWS doesn't work with this webcam, even though it is listed on Logitech's website as the latest version ; Face tracking, although works the majority of the time, in poor lighting it is hit and miss

Well worth the price

I bought this in Feb 2010 at a retailer for $42. I origianally wanted one specifically for notebooks, but decided to go with one that could be used on my desktop PC also. I got it home, installed the software and hooked up the samera. That was it. I...

Ease of installation, usage simplicity, compatibility with Skype and Google Chat, universal clip allows use on a notebook

So far, so good. I am very happy with the product

Excellant

Very pleased with this cam, of course with HD, I can see my faults. Excellent low light and love the tilt and side to side function.

Great Value for Price

This was a great addon to my last shipment. Leaps and bounds above my laptop camera and built in Mic works great.

I see you long time!

Bought this for my parents accross the country in Illinois. They were able to set it up and get it working which is quite an accomplishment not being that tech savy. We can now skype and argue face to face :) Peace!
