D-Link DWL-810 (PS2) Review

D-Link feels our pain and has just released their DWL-810 Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge. What exactly is a bridge and who needs it? Well, first off, to ...

Great Wireless Access Point

A great dual band wireless access point that will end your frustration with the cheap wireless routers and access points.

Great range, dual band, strong signal

Price is the only one but it you are tired of wireless that stops with the first wall, you have to spend some dollars

Plug it in, configure and GO!

This product solved my wireless isssues. I originaly looked at the Dap-2590 due to the multiple configurations. I ended up using it as an AP into my VPN Netgear router and it works fantastic. Setting it up was as simple as plugging it into POE port and...

Horible

Absolute junk. Impossible to configure. It is absolutely the last D-Link product I will ever consider purchasing.

Good, once you've got it configured correctly

Good, once you've got it configured correctly

Hopefully this review will help you get the DWL-G810 working on your wireless network. It took me 5 hours of pulling my hair out and searching the Internet before eventually understanding what is necessary to get this unit to work! Once I got it...

Decent Hardware, horrible support

If you are considering this device to set up a multi-SSID / VLAN configuration, look elsewhere. After working myself into a frenzy trying to get this to work properly, their tech support told me.. "Yeah... that doesn't work. Can you return it and get...

Compatibility and coverage seem to be good. Essential functions are reasonably easy to configure, but still a little obtuse. Power over Ethernet. Plenum rated. Cheap for the advertised functionality

The documentation is horrible. Tech support is pretty lame (although I have noticed improvements to phone support recently). Multi SSID and VLAN functionality do NOT work as advertised in the current firmware release. Compatibility with certain gigabit...

Good 802.11n AP

After going this route at work , I'll never buy an integrated basestation/router combo for my house again.

Very solid, fast and easy to configure AP. Once I figured out what the default IP was, it was ready to go in under 15 minutes, haven't touched it since. It may be irrelevant, but I was very impressed with the unit's construction. No compatibility...

Saying that it is "dual-band" may be misleading, since it will either operate in 2.4GHz or 5GHz, not both simultaneously

Nearly Perfect

Nearly Perfect

The product is old and does not support all types of WEP encryption. And it can be a PAIN to set-up. But once it's installed and ready it works flawlessly. Connect it to a switch and you can connect everything in your house wirelessly :)

The only bridge that works for me

The only bridge that works for me

I've tried a few other competing product from both D-link and Linksys and this is the only model that hasn't given me a single problem. I have 3 in my house connected to DVR's and game systems...and they have never once needed to be rebooted or...

Product Specifications

The D-LinkAir DWL-810 is an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet to IEEE 802.11b wireless bridge that delivers wireless connectivity for devices with built-in Ethernet support. The D-LinkAir DWL-810 operates in the 2.4GHz frequency range and uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) modulation technology for data integrity. Both Ad-Hoc mode, peer-to-peer networking from one 802.11b device to another, and Infrastructure mode, communications between wireless devices with the use of an Access Point are supported by the D-LinkAir DWL-810, for maximum flexibility. Users need only connect the DWL-810, to the device they wish to add wireless connectivity to, using a CAT 5-crossover cable. The D-LinkAir DWL-810 provides users with a means to connect any Ethernet enabled device to an 802.11b wireless network. This technology will allow users to add wireless connectivity to many different devices, such as Ethernet enabled print servers, network storage devices and Internet cameras. Users will gain the flexibility of wireless networking without having to purchase new equipment. With up to 11Mbps of bandwidth, users will enjoy a high-speed connection to their network for sharing a common printer, file sharing, video streaming or sharing Internet access. Strict adherence to the latest IEEE 802.11b specifications gives the D-LinkAir DWL-810 complete interoperability with all standards based 11b wireless equipment. The adapter offers 11 channels, three of which are non-overlapping, to minimize interference from other 802.11b networks. By delivering 128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), users can encrypt the data they transmit, to keep their information secure from unwanted intruders.
