Ipevo PoV Web Camera

Ipevo would have you believe that its pen-shaped PoV Web Camera is the only Webcam you can detach from the top of your laptop or monitor to control its point of view. While it is true that you can point the PoV cam at objects other than a talking head...

Outstanding macro mode; inexpensive

Cannot record video--only stills--with included software; poor low-light performance; remote monitoring feature doesn't work with Vista SP1 or the latest version of Skype; no Mac support

Middling performance and oddly lacking software overshadow the Ipevo PoV Web Camera's excellent macro mode. Don't buy it unless you need a Webcam for the express purpose of recording close-up still shots or up-close-and-personal video chats.

A new level of communication Online communication is convenient, but adding the power of images lets you experience a richer and more meaningful exchange of ideas. However, ordinary web cameras take the face-to-face communication of video chats too literally. It seems that video chats add very little to most of our online communication experience other than having a talking head stare at you when you want to talk. Why not make more use of the power of images and provide a more efficient, instantaneous and accurate way of getting information and ideas across at the same time? Ultimately, the purpose of communication is to deliver the message. Use the PoV as an instant document, image, or object projector when combined with the macro focus to display items on a computer monitor or projector screen. Document or catalogue items visually, and add your own annotations for immediate improvements when presenting or displaying large volumes of information.
