Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera

Remote-monitoring Webcam needs smoother setup

Inexpensive; can connect to home network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi; lets you view video from remote IE browsers

Somewhat difficult to configure; dim image; not compatible with Macs, Firefox

Double your display real estate by adding a second monitor. It's a snap: Here's how

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

This camera is great for watching over your home or business from anywhere. You can use a browser (IE or Firefox) and for those of you with mobile devices and certain cell phones, you can use RTSP to connect and watch mobile video with these cameras....

Mobile video using a cell phone via RTSPWireless, streams audio with IE browserSnapshot mode so you can fetch just a single JPG for use on a web page, etc. Includes 1 free year of TZO.COM DDNS

Motion detection can trigger with light, clouds, wind, but if you have it indoors and no natural lighting "tricks" hit the camera, it will work perfectly

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

I bought the wireless internet camera to be able to watch my kids downstairs from my PC while I was working in my home office. It works for that purpose pretty well, however, its somewhat tough to get it installed and working. Also, sometimes when I...

Nice picture, good sound

Range is really weak. The software is annoying

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

The video quality of this camera is quite decent in daylight. It has a few video formats so there are several ways to watch the video. It even has a static snapshot URL that I was able to hack together to embed the image in my own private website.The...

Decent quality, fairly easy setup, wireless connectivity

Sound either really bad or doesn't work at all

Very poor Camera.

The documentation to setup this camera is an absolute joke. I was able to get it up and running and on the web within 20 minutes, but I'm really good at networking, and was able to find a ton of information on the web (not from linksys) on how ......

It's cheap for the features it comes with

It's hard to setup, it's not stable (crash master)

As bad as it gets -- total garbage

I have had two of these for years and they are a bad joke. Linksys should be ashamed. The image quality is what you'd expect from a cheap toy at. Panasonic makes much better cameras if you are on a budget. However, if you actually want to be able ......

There is nothing good here

Poor image quality, blind in low light conditions. When used wirelessly, tend to crash. Requires activeX so no good with firefox. Can't retrieve an image remotely (e.g. using curl or wget in Unix) The security cert for the activeX control expired

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

I had a Linksys wireless router so thought this would be a snap to setup. Wrong. First, after four hours with tech support we figured out that the camera had an intermittent power supply. Took it back and exchanged for a new camera. Still had problems...

Excellent distant access and motion detection emails are great

Hard to set up - took awhile

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

This is a very good Linksys brand wireless-G Internet Video Camera that can be used as a security camera without the mess of wires. With wireless routers prevalent, this is the way to go for cameras. The camera can be setup for viewing from any...

Linksys WVC54G Wireless G Internet Video Camera - Canada

Am using version 2.07 of the firmware and motion detection simply does not work. It refuses to send an email when there is motion in frame. This is one of the main reasons I bought it for. Also, you must use Linksys software to view the streaming...

Product Specifications

The Linksys Wireless-G Internet Video Camera sends live video with sound through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace - whatever's important to you. Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own web server, so it can connect directly to a network, either over Wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. The advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces a high-quality, high-frame rate, up to 640x480 audio/video stream. The Internet Video Camera's unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows you to mount it on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use. Once it's connected to your home network, you can "see what it sees" from any PC in the house, while the audio/video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind your Router. If you want the video to be visible from outside your home network, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see. The SoloLink domain service (trial sign-up included) lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name", even if your home Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address. You can also turn on Security Mode, which tells the camera to send a message with a short video attached to up to three email addresses whenever it detects motion in its field of view. You can then log onto the live video stream if the situation warrants. The included Viewer & Recorder utility lets you record the audio/video stream to your local hard drive, "live" or on a predetermined schedule. Let the Linksys Wireless-G Internet Video Camera help you keep tabs on your world.
