Ring Stick Up Cam Wired review: Good, not great

Ring's Stick Up Cam Wired is solid, but I'm holding out for free cloud video storage.

The $180 Ring Stick Up Cam Wired is easy to set up and use. I got responsive motion alerts and the detection zones worked well.

You can't use Google Assistant voice commands with this camera and you still have to pay for cloud video storage.

Ring's Stick Up Cam Wired is a fine camera, but better alternatives are out there.

This solar-powered security cam fails to outshine rivals

Despite its neat solar panel accessory, Ring's Stick Up Cam has fewer features than our favorite DIY security cameras.

It's weatherproofed for outside use and you can power it via its built-in rechargeable battery, the included USB adapter or a neat solar panel accessory.

Audio quality was spotty during testing. You have to pay for event-based cloud storage. Its 80-degree field of view doesn't cover very much ground and the live video stream often looked grainy in testing.

The Ring Stick Up Cam's flexible power sources give it real appeal, but other standalone DIY cameras offer more for less.

The Ring Stick Up Cam is a wireless outdoor security camera that installs in minutes and interacts with other smart home devices, but has a narrow field of view and requires a cloud subscription to view recorded video.
