Alien Syndrome Review

The only syndrome here is terminal boredom.

It's obvious that a lot of time went into this game. The different game modes, the different types of weapons and armor, the character classes and the floating inventory system all speak to a desire to make Alien Syndrome a top notch dungeon crawler....

Alien Syndrome

An arcade classic gets a modern day makeover, but would we rather it be "game over, man?"

RPG elements add some depth to the alien blasting; Good Wii controls for shooting; four-player multiplayer

The enemies, environments, and gameplay get repetitive; some of the RPG bits are poorly handled; bad Wii controls for melee combat and camera work; it's pretty ugly

A return to form of an '80's classic or a new low for Wii?

20 hour single player campaign ; Lots of customization options

Obnoxiously repetitive gameplay ; Obtuse and illegible menus ; Hordes of recycled enemies ; Awkward controls ; Muddy color scheme and generic art design

In space, no one can hear you yawn.

The gameplay, however, suffers worst of all. Developer Totally Games attempted to inject some innovation into the Wii controls, particularly with melee combat moves, yet it doesn't work so well. In order to rotate the screen, players must turn the...

How can you go wrong with guns and aliens?

Aiming with the Wii remote ; Building better stats and equipment ; Exclusive minigames

Butt-ugly graphics ; Reloading could be easier ; Co-op falls short

Alien Syndrome

You know, when you sit back and think about it, a lot of "classic" (or popular) sci-fi really makes no sense. The stories are often corny, characters are clichéd, and the ending is - for the most part - usually predictable. But there's just something...

Alien Syndrome has a lot of promise, but the lack of a decent story and the poorly implemented Wii controls hamper the experience. If you're a fan of the original, get this on the PSP instead.

Alien Syndrome

As with the original, the player views the action from a top-down perspective. The graphics are 3-D rendered in a style similar to many recent RPGs. The game will also feature a four-player cooperative mode

Alien Syndrome

AlienSyndrome is one of Sega's oldest franchises, harking back to a 1987 Arcade release

none

broken camera ; confusing interface ; brought button mashing to motion controls ; will generate strong desire to mute speakers

Overall, Alien Syndrome would have been better off using the classic controller and sticking to the formula of the original title. For a 20th year anniversary, Alien Syndrome for the Nintendo Wii is just one big letdown.

Alien Syndrome

Twenty years after Alien Syndrome first slithered into arcades, Sega's coin-op classic gets a modern-day makeover with Alien Syndrome on Wii. The Wii version is played from an overhead perspective like the original, but this time in full 3D with 15 levels
