F1 2009 (Wii) Review

There aren't many options for F1 racing fans on the console but can this Codemaster's release fill that void?

This game is made specifically for one type of person – F1 racing fans. Unlike other sports titles which try to appeal to a cross section of the gaming community, if you’re not a Formula One racing fan then you will not want to pick up this game. On...

Sometimes ya just need to drive around.

Easy to learn controls

Every car is essentially the same; Nothing interesting except the license; Where's the car damage

A racing title that's less than a simulation, with charm that wears off before the champion is crowned.

Career mode is enjoyable ; Nice use of real-world details ; Game is simple and fun overall

Has the trappings of a racing simulation, but it is definitely not one ; Graphics are underwhelming ; Get boring after a while

I'm surprised they didn't ban it.

There is nothing quite like the thrill of Formula 1. Twenty cars racing at up to 200 MPH for up to two hours a single mistake enough to have any driver out of the race. Add qualifiers, tactics of tire changes and refueling and the occasional splash of...

F1 2009 is a pit stop short of a completed lap

Racing fans of any kind are strongly urged to play F1 2009 before handing over the full asking price ($39.99 at GameStop, the only retailer selling the game in the United States).

Steers for realism and hits some Wii-shaped bumps

Authentic and official ; All the races and drivers ; Conveys sense of speed well

Limitations of the Wii when it comes to realism ; Needing analogue control ; Limited AI and damage

Ultimately, it’s an acceptable racer rather than a mind-blowing one. Still, Codemasters has never been under any illusion about F1 2009’s purpose; as a pick-up-and-play racer that daddy and his younglings can use together and as a fan-calming appetizer...

F1 2009 Wii Review

Ever since Codemasters announced that they had grabbed the rights to develop Formula One games, I've been very excited by the prospect. The British publisher and developer certainly know what they are doing when it comes to motor sport, with a long...

Problems aside, the use of the licence means that – pleasing to fans – all the drivers, teams and tracks are in there from the 2009 season, but, more importantly, F1 2009 is a game that handles well and mostly moves at a scary speed. True, it's not...

F1 2009 Review

Codemasters new F1 game is definitely more 'arcade' than simulator.

Although F1 2009 includes most elements of what a true racing simulator has, it’s definitely not one, with each part lacking any true depth. Instead what we have here is an arcade F1 game, and it’s a reasonable one at that. It’s probably a better...
