Kyotokei

Borrowing heavily from one of the greatest shooters of all time is a surefire way to succeed... right?

Controls are simple and responsive ; Fun "polarity" mechanic ; No slowdown at any point

Fails to differentiate itself in any positive way ; Levels are bland ; Ugly, ugly menu screen

Okay so just get Gundemonium then (it's on Steam). Doesn't have the color changing mechanic but going by this review it's a much more fun game (and probably cheaper, too).

Review: Kyotokei (WiiWare)

A retro style and enjoyable co-op make Kyotokei a worthwhile "bullet hell" shoot-'em-up.

Retro style; fun co-op mode; simple to play, but tough to master gameplay

Very brief; old school difficulty will scare off some gamers

Kyotokei Review

It's taken over eight years for it to happen, but somebody finally wised up and decided to bring Nintendo fans a successor to the sensational Ikaruga.

Overall this is a solid spiritual sequel to the GameCube great it's copying, and at just five bucks anyone who enjoyed that older polarity shifter should seriously consider downloading this new one.
