Madden NFL 09 All-Play

Fans of EA's sports games are accustomed to the routine at this point: another year, another coat of paint, in the form of updated rosters and a few tweaks to the formula. Obviously, these slightly enhanced annual releases sell well, so why put any...

Madden '09 on the Wii is a pretty solid example of the pros and cons of being a Wii owner, as the game takes huge advantage of the console's unique controller set-up and diverse fan base to offer up a variety of gameplay options and innovative game...

Madden NFL '09 All-Play

The most Blitz-like a Madden game will probably ever be.

All-Play mode works well ; Nice blend of simulation and arcade ; 5-on-5 mode is great for multiplayer

Graphics don't impress ; Motion control still has issues ; Other multiplayer modes are generally poor

Is anybody still playing this game at all? In the NFL Playoff fervor, I've broken it out on occasion and it's still a good time. It held up a lot better than I expected.

Madden NFL 09 All-Play

The Wii gets a version of Madden that combines an old-school football feel with fun motion-driven controls.

Wii controls work very well; online play is fast and fun; wide array of gameplay modes

NFL Superstar and Franchise modes feel stale; unimpressive visuals; no bullet passes online

Reaching back out to the masses, one arms-flailing touchdown at a time

Better controls this year ; More Wii-style personality ; Online play again

2001-era graphics ; Kicking mechanics ; Standard games too long

Even so, Madden NFL 09 All Play is blazing an important trail to reintroduce lost football fans to the franchise. It’s an undeniably fun experience that will please many in its target audience, and even includes roster updates and online play. Not to...
