New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat review for the WII

Of bananas and biceps.

Beating bosses is satisfying; Innovative mechanics

Controls are counter-intuitive; Little replay value

If you have unbreakable hands of steel or happen to spend part of your life as a touring percussionist, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat will surely provide plenty of fun. It uses the bongo drums in a creative fashion, connecting you to the experience in a...

New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

New Play Control or No Play Control?

Great looking graphics ; Infectious jungle boogies ; Fantastic core experience

Some ideas are lost in translation ; Dumber control scheme ; Not as good as the GameCube version

It’s not quite the game you remember, but who pays for what they clearly remember? New is good. Purists can trawl through the eBay mire for a proper copy, but this’ll do for newbies. Not bongo- fun, but still fun. You can scratch that opening remark....

New Play Control! Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat

What happens when you take the bongos away from the ape? Bad things.

Rearranged levels make it feel new again ; Graphics are still great

The removal of the bongos takes away a lot of the charm

The original is awesome and extremely under rated. The fact that NWR as a whole appreciates it is basically the only reason I stick around. This new edition is a travesty. How can you beat off without the drums? Garbage.

New Play Control! Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat

Before the EAD Tokyo team got to grips with Super Mario Galaxy, it was handed a debut project based around both the venerable Donkey Kong and the GameCube peripheral of the bongo drum controllers, which had previously only been used for the Donkey...
