Overlord: Dark Legend (Wii)

My First Overlord would not have been a marketable title for the first Overlord game to land on the Wii, but it would have been an apt one. Overlord: Dark Legend is a catchier name, of course, but it doesn't prepare you for the watered-down adventure...

Review: Overlord: Dark Legend (Nintendo Wii)

Oh look, there happens to be a glowing handprint on the wall in part of the castle!

Overlord: Dark Legend is one of the best games I have played on the Wii and should satisfy any gamer seeking a “Core” gaming experience. It may not be as difficult as other Overlord games, but it's also not nearly as frustrating and much more fun than...

Controls

You play the game with the remote and nunchuk. The Prince is controlled with the analog stick, the camera can be reset, and you can move the camera manually by holding down C and moving the cursor around the screen. When you actually get your first set...

Overlord: Dark Legend

A from-the-ground-up Wii title that still shines despite its technical faults.

Solid gameplay ; Lots of personality and humor ; A focused and fun experience

A few annoying bugs ; Some minor control issues

Nice to hear the game is pretty good. I still plan on getting it.

The Consensus: Overlord: Dark Legend Review

The most accessible Overlord... but at what cost?

Great controls and an all new story make this fun even if you've played the other Overlords

It's very short, not challenging for experienced gamers, leaves me wanting more out of the sequel

Dark Legend's fun, I just don't think that a person with considerable skill at games will find it all that challenging. Still, if you want a good, humorous story, and are looking for something to entertain you (albeit briefly), then Dark Legend is...

Because mom always said you were a little too bossy.

We enjoyed stomping through the game's fairytale environments attacking gingerbread men, stomping wolves and shaking minions to make them explode. That said, Dark Legend attractive visuals often force the action to chug, an overabundance of minions...

Overlord Dark Legend

Something wicked this way comes

A handsome looking Wii game ; Well designed gameplay with decent controls ; Richly imagined world

Core concepts feel under-explored ; Too short ; Some of the cutscenes lack flair

As a game designed to exploit your moral compass, Overlord’s ambitions are foiled by a lack of reach. It’s a fairly generic adventure whose core mechanics of exploration and puzzling have both been done better elsewhere. But as a colorful, undemanding...

Mean-streaked tacticians are called upon to fling minions and raise hell in Overlord: Dark Legend, a motion-controlled action-strategy game based on Triumph Studio's dark-humored Overlord. Retaining the play style of its predecessor, Dark Legend combines

Overlord: Dark Legend Review

Control of a horde of minions to assist you in your quest as the Overlord series makes it debut on the Wii.

Rating this game was quite difficult as it has an eclectic mix of excellent and mediocre features. The graphics would rival many of the better Wii games, and some of the eye catching outdoor scenes could even set an example for the next ‘Zelda’ title...

Overlord: Dark Legend

Dark Legend possesses all the sly wit you'd expect from an Overlord game. Too bad the action and the once-engaging puzzles are all dumbed down.

Funny and charming dialogue ; Intuitive controls ; Varied environments are pleasant to explore

Much, much too easy ; Simple puzzles rarely take advantage of minions' abilities ; Lame boss fights ; Bugs and glitches

Product Specifications

Designed and developed exclusively for Wii, Overlord Dark Legend is an action adventure steeped in fairy tale lore with sinister, satirical twists. Set in a time before the original game, players take the role of a young Overlord. As he revels in command of the Minions, the trainee tyrant will be able to take his growing pains out on the local fairy tale inhabitants as he protects his castle and lands. Connecting players to the game world in three dimensions, the use of the Wii Remote gives unprecedented control over the minions. For example, individual Minions can be plucked from the horde, held by the neck and then, by vigorously shaking the Wii Remote, throttled to imbue him with some Overlordly power and turn him into a manic minion missile. With a now-explosive body, the insane little critter can be guided into enemies with hilarious, if rather fatal, consequences. Backed by a rich, tongue-in-cheek story from award-winning games author Rhianna Pratchett, the game features Overlord favorites including Halflings, trolls, elves, and dwarves and introduces wicked witches, gingerbread men and Lil' Red Riding Hood, the seeming sweet girl with a very personal lupine secret.
