Super Mario Maker (for Wii U)

If you ever wanted to make your own Mario levels, Super Mario Maker for the Wii U is the way to do it.

Easy to use, relatively powerful level design tools. Graphics and mechanics feel faithful to the source games. Excellent level sharing and playing system. The best reason to collect Amiibos we've seen yet.

Tools don't support deep, complex changes to how objects and enemies work. Can't upload levels with recorded sound effects.

Super Mario Maker (Wii U) Review

Super Mario Maker is so much more than a toolbox. It's a stage.

Super Mario Maker is a toolbox and a stage that allows players to show off their imagination and long-built Mario platforming abilities. Its jam packed with content, much of it designed by the community and running the gamut of spectacularly good and...

Super Mario Maker

For every kid who grew up in the 80s and 90s with a fervent love for Nintendo games and a flair of I could do that better creativity, Super Mario Maker is the opposite of dry in Kirbys dream-land.

NHL 16

After a last year that suffered from underwhelming gameplay, missing modes, and a general lack of creative vision, developer EA Canada needed to come out strong this year to prove it still has what it takes to make a relevant hockey game. With...

Super Mario Maker review: Let's-a play/create/share

My first day with Super Mario Maker was slow-going. I wasn't satisfied with what I'd made using the few tools I had, so I slept on it. During the night, inspiration struck. I woke up the next morning and set to work on my first masterpiece:...

Incredibly friendly and easy to use; Gives you an entire history of Super Mario games and lets you subvert it; Constantly source of feedback and encouragement

Unlocking new tools is somewhat arbitrary

Brimming with positivity and encouragement, Super Mario Maker's brilliant toy box gives you everything you need to easily create and share some truly fantastic levels.

Super Mario Maker Review

I am not a good game designer, but I knew that before playing Super Mario Maker. In other games with a built-in "creator" mode, like LittleBigPlanet, I would just ignore the creation aspect and focus on playing. Mod and level design tools for most RPGs...

An array of joyous, challenging stages Nostalgic melding of 8-bit art with more recent enemies and items Catchy remixes of classic Mario tunes Wonderful surprises and Easter Eggs to discover

Unlocking all the design elements is a little too slow Customization tools don't allow you to deviate from the Mario formula much (no music creator, character palette customization, etc.)

Super Mario Maker review – A phenomenon in waiting

I didn't think I'd like Super Mario Maker this much. Straight up. I thought it was going to be a one and done experiment on the part of Nintendo, and I assumed I'd play it a bit, familiarize myself with the process of making, sharing and playing levels...

If you buy this game, you’ll get your money’s worth. If it takes off like it has the potential to, Super Mario Maker will be be on everyone’s lips for a good long while.

Super Mario Maker

The first thing you need to know about Super Mario Maker on the 3DS is that, currently, you can't share or access created levels over the Internet. The reason I bring this up straight away is because you may think that the major selling point of this...

Super Mario Maker 3DS takes everything that worked on the Wii U and replicates it for a handheld experience. It's a shame that sharing levels via the Internet isn’t yet possible – but this game’s a joy all the same.
