Splatoon (for Nintendo Wii U)

Splatoon is a unique, friendly shooter from Nintendo that throws away any sense of violence and replaces it with colorful fun.

Fresh, friendly new take on third-person shooters. Addictive action. Steady updates have added a satisfying amount of content since launch.

No way to communicate with teammates. Local multiplayer limited to two players.

Massive Chalice

After raising several million dollars via Kickstarter to fund the adventure game that eventually became Broken Age, Double Fine tapped the gaming hive-wallet to fund another project, Massive Chalice. Broken Age has received most of the attention, but...

Splatoon Review — All inked up and ready to dance

Gaming, as a medium, is old. Platformers, horror games, first person shooters, point-and-click adventures, text-based MMOs (yep, played one of those for a few years) and sports titles have been done again and again for decades now.

Splatoon is a buy if you want to support Nintendo’s new shooter straight away and you don’t think you’ll get too bored with the content. Personally, I’d be snapping this up right away even in light of the lack of maps and modes at launch. If you think...

The most interesting thing about Splatoon is how experimental it all feels.

Splatoon

Every online shooter has its honeymoon period, but it usually isn't long before the cracks start showing. In some these cracks are tiny and papered over by patches soon after release. In others, they're gaping flaws that need more radical improvements...

Ingenious game mechanics ; Vibrant graphics ; Inventive single-player campaign ; Accessible yet deep

Lacks variety ; Can feel grindy in the early stages

Splatoon (Wii U) review - Nintendo's inkredible new shooter

Fun, stylish and hugely entertaining, but Splatoon's meagre number of battle modes prevents it from being a must-have hit (for now)

Splatoon review

Nintendo's new franchise isn't a total miss, but it is a bit messy

Fast-paced fun ; Colourful aesthetic ; Squid navigation

Limited content ; Irritating menus ; So-so solo mode

Colourful and unique, Splatoon puts a nice spin on the shooter genre, but the final draft doesn't feel very precise

Splatoon

Reagan straps a tank to his back, fills it with his ink, and squirts it everywhere and on everything in an effort to understand Splatoon.

This isn't warfare, it's ink warfare

While Splatoon is lacking in a few features gamers have come to expect from the modern online shooter, there’s no denying what it brings to the table is fresh, new, and exciting. The unique ink-squid mechanic opens new ways to move around and interact...
