Aliens: Colonial Marines Performance and IQ Review

Today we evaluate Aliens: Colonial Marines, which uses the Unreal 3 engine with an updated renderer. Since it is a DX9 game, we expect to see faster performance on less expensive video cards like the GeForce GTX 660 Ti and Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition....

We are not quite sure what SEGA and Gearbox were thinking when delivering Aliens: Colonial Marines to consumers. As a big fan of the Aliens series, both movies and games, we were hoping that this game would knock it out of the ballpark with intense...

Aliens: Colonial Marines

After years spent in development hell, Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines has arrived and like a malfunctioning dropship, has crashed amid a critical firestorm. Sifting through the smouldering wreckage of potential and ire of offended fans – there’s...

Besides the hive sections and a welcome stealth mission, there’s little real atmosphere found in a game that should be full of it. Tension is built, however, by the orchestral score. The music, by far the game’s strongest asset, is cinematic in both...

Aliens: Colonial Marines – Not The Game It Was Meant To Be

Back at PAX 2011, Gearbox showed off a game in which Xenomorphs were smart, vicious, and able to move intelligently through the environment. This is not that game.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Now the bad: essentially, everything else. The gameplay is littered with bugs (pun intended) such as near-constant screen flickers, environ pops, and wonky character model hit detection. I once stood in place and watched a fellow marine walk through...

Decent story, set between Aliens and Alien 3 ; Some of the designs, especially the aliens themselves, is great ; Iconic locations faithfully recreated ; Decent multiplayer ideas

Missed opportunities in almost every way ; Terrible CGI cut scene graphics ; Some of the worst AI in this game generation ; Gameplay is full of bugs ; Item pick up/action button and the reload are the same, which sucks ; Multiplayer is woefully unbalanced

Multiplayer offers more choices and helps offset some of the failings of the problematic campaign. There is a co-op mode and a four-player campaign option, which is nice if you have a group of friends to play with.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

By now you've read the reports. Aliens: Colonial Marines is not worth six months' development time, let alone six years, and after all the hype we've ended up with a sub-par shooter that fails to live up to any expectations. I went into the game...

Having a funny glitch pop up and have an Alien stick to the wall. Seriously, that’s all I got.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Five minutes into Aliens: Colonial Marines the game makes a mistake from which it cannot recover, a mistake so fatal that you may as well eject the disc, toss it in the bin and forget that it ever existed. Let me tell you about it.

Building a game around James Cameron’s 1986 sci-fi classic should be the recipe for a tense, action-packed shooter bursting with atmosphere and scares. Instead we get one of the biggest disappointments in recent years. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a...

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review: No Hope Left

Developer Gearbox's Alien FPS will make you scream for all the wrong reasons.

About an hour into Aliens: Colonial Marines, it's hard to find a reason to keep playing. At least that's exactly how I felt during my solo campaign run. Xenomorphs -- the creepy, black-suited extraterrestrials from the Hollywood films -- often slipped...

Aliens: Colonial Marines- X360

The dull, unattractive Aliens: Colonial Marines is a functional shooter, but little more.

Online multiplayer offers some fun, anxious moments ; Interesting stealth level brings some suspense to the single-player campaign

Campaign is mostly devoid of tension and challenge ; Static pace and lack of variety lead to boredom ; Tacked-on cooperative play completely negates the narrative ; Dated visuals and assorted bugs

And that's Colonial Marines' biggest problem: enemies come, and you shoot them down easily, again and again. The game is remarkably light on variety. A couple of battles masquerade as boss fights, but they require no strategy and are just as easy and...

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

Aliens: Colonial Marines has had a really rocky, difficult development that's manifested in numerous delays. We didn't know much more, but recently it's come out that TimeGate Studios put in significant work on the game, possibly exceeding that amount...

Aliens: Colonial Marines certainly offers a wealth of reverence of the movie it's aping, but the efforts by TimeGate and Gearbox Software seem misguided and tone-deaf - and that's not even considering the wooden gunplay, often-broken cutscenes and...
