Bloodforge Review

At first glimpse, Bloodforge, the new hack-and-slasher from Climax Studios, looks promising. The art style is that classic Sin City look, where the contrast is pushed up on everything but the blood. Your first hands-on interaction with the character...

Deep within the ancient tales of gods and men, there is a story in particular that needs to be told. For it is said that the tapestry of fate is already woven for us all and that tapestry cannot be broken or changed, however this would not be the case...

Blood on the floor, the walls, and the ceiling.

Steals from the best

Literally commits Grand Larceny; Made me feel woozy; The camera; Cactuses

Still, your hands will be soaked in blood, and your gamertag will have the game's Achievements on it, so we'll know what you did. And you will be mocked for it. Just like Crom... and his dead wife.

Bloodforge's striking brutality doesn't stand a chance of overcoming its crushingly dull gameplay.

A few memorably hideous character designs

Tedious combat ; Terrible, protracted boss battles ; Underdeveloped world and characters ; Distractingly wobbly camera ; A number of minor technical problems

It might take you about six hours to finish Crom's quest, and that's six hours longer than this game ought to be. Bloodforge makes a laughable attempt to seduce you into spending even more time with it, with leaderboards for each level and the option...

A stylish action game, but one riddled with flaws and shortcomings.

While it gets props for an interesting visual style and graphics, Bloodforge also brings with it an awful camera, weak story, and extremely derivative gameplay. Bloodforge’s gameplay never strives to attain more than “me too” status, bringing nothing...

I always look forward to the Xbox Live promotions. We usually get to see some truly remarkable games that may not have gotten as much attention throughout their development. XBLA Next is definitely ripe...

Dark, gloomy art style ; Combat is visceral

Combat is also hectic ; Camera induces headaches ; Narrative feels forced

I cannot recommend Bloodforge. I wish I could, but I cannot. A gamer that lives for brutal, nonstop combat might enjoy the experience, but I certainly did not. There is nothing inherently wrong with Bloodforge’s attempt to fashion a gory epic, but it...

Bloodforge feels like work; a dreary Tuesday morning filled with meetings and admin, where your boss yells at you, your computer keeps turning itself off and you accidentally kill your wife.

Great production values for an arcade game

Satanic camera ; Arduous combat ; Astonishingly boring

There's no fun to be had here, though. Bloodforge feels like work; a dreary Tuesday morning filled with meetings and admin, where your boss yells at you, your computer keeps turning itself off and you accidentally kill your wife. Roll on the weekend.

Without the ability to block, Crom must roll away from any ruckus after every few swings to survive. On its own, that's no big deal; factor in the lack of lock-on targeting, though, and you'll spend almost as much time managing the obstinate camera as...
