Comic Jumper Review

What a failing super hero to do when his own comic gets canceled? Luckily for Captain Smiley, the nice folks at Twisted Pixel are giving him the chance to guest star in other comics until he can get back on his feet.

While this is a short game, the gameplay still manages to wear thin. The mechanics are still the same from the very first issue to the very last. The game took me a total of 5 hours 37 minutes to complete, and I was always hoping something different...

Mutton Dressed As Lamb

Great style and innovative use of breaking the fourth wall. Well done script and a lot of extra content for your money

Terrible gameplay mechanics and repetative level design really damage the overall product

Being influenced by the colourful world of comic books, Comic Jumper has a stunning visual palette. In places the graphics are not always up to scratch, but for the most part the visual style carries its quality by means of stylish exaggeration. The...

Review: Comic Jumper

When I was deciding if I was going to purchase an Xbox 360, there was the obvious question of what games would separate the 360 and the PS3. There are several full retail releases that are not exclusive and have feature parity  on both systems. Most...

Going where no emoticon-faced superhero has gone before!

Incredible presentation; Hilarious dialogue; Tons of bonus contect to unlock; Challenging but bearable

Sometimes unfriendly checkpoint system

Comic Jumper

Comic Jumper is a game at odds with itself. It is entertaining, visually striking, well-written, and genuinely funny. To get to all of those things, though, you have to play a mediocre game. Comic Jumper can't decide what it ought to be in terms of...

Snappy writing, great art direction

Mediocre gameplay mechanics

Comic Jumper

Captain Smiley is not a household name. Even though he sports a friendly exterior and has a good sense of charm, his comic books just aren't interesting enough to keep the superhero employed. His books are being ripped up or, used as toilet paper or...

Comic Jumper is a fun action game full of fresh ideas and awesome level designs. Unfortunately, it's marred by dated gameplay and a lot of repetition. But what it lacks in depth, it more than makes up for in charm. Twisted Pixel has developed a game...

Comic Jumper Review (Xbox 360)

But while so many things work exceedingly well in the game, there are a few minor stumbling blocks along the way. But all-in, you're left knowing just how much fun Twisted Pixel had bringing this world to life

style side-scrolling bullet-hell. There are lots of projectiles to dodge, from deadly paper fans to manga hearts. Each level holds multiple styles of play and they transition smoothly from one to the next

Comic Jumper

Threatened with becoming just another failed superhero, Captain Smiley is rescued by the fine folks at Twisted Pixel who provide him with a base of operations and Comic Jumping technology allowing him and his back-talking "chestkick" named Star to leap...

Comic Jumper

Comic Jumper is a solid XBLA release that will please some more than others, but for me it's definitely a case of style over substance.

You'd think that classic scrolling gameplay would be good fun, but the amount of enemies and bullets trying to kill you makes the experience quite stilted. Given the light tone of the story and the bravado of the main character, it's downright...

Comic Jumper

With Splosion Man, Twisted Pixel not only proved they are not a one-hit wonder, but also solidified their status as certifiably insane (and I mean that as a complement). Splosion Man was easily one of the best downloadable games of 2009 and a fitting...

Gorgeous visuals ; Well written ; Wacky and funny from beginning to end ; Lots of replay value including unlockables and challenges

Controls need to be tightened up a bit ; Combat is very repetitive

Comic Jumper is a fitting third entry for Twisted Pixel. While the combat does mar things a bit, ushering in some frustrating moments, the humor does a great job keeping its tongue firmly placed in its cheek. The campaign won’t take you too long -...
