Crackdown 2 is Crackdown with 4 player co-op, a dull new color palette, and a glide suit that doesn't glide very well.

Crackdown 2 Preview


Trouble is brewing once again in Pacific City. And we don't just mean the criminals.

Crackdown 2 is on track for release sometime next year. Microsoft hasn't given a specific release window, just sometime in 2010. That's good enough for us, especially for a game that, at one point, wasn't even in development. We're glad it is.

And really, that's what keeps me from really enjoying Crackdown 2. It does feel a lot like the first game, which isn't totally bad, but if I'm a new developer coming onto an existing and well liked license like this, I'd have at least made some attempt...

In designing a sequel to a cult classic, a developer has to walk a fine tightrope between innovation and familiarity. Turning a twee, colourful-linens franchise into a bevy of blades and metal will probably upset some of the fans, for instance....
