Dead Island (Xbox 360)

From a distance, Banoi looks like a holidaymaker's paradise: a tropical island in a sparkling blue ocean, home to a luxury beach resort. Get closer, though, and you'll spot blood on the sand (and on the walls, and in the swimming pools). Zombies are...

Dead Island is one of the most ambitious games I have seen in a long time and while I didn’t have any high expectations for this game it managed to blow me away and provide hours of fun from start to finish. Lately it could be said that there is an...

Gone are the stereotypical grays and browns that plague most zombie shooters in favor of the tropical and luscious isle of Banoi, which looks breathtaking at times. There are some weird animations, but the voice acting more than makes up for those.

In a stall since the 1.3.0 update, but I'm hoping the new trainer will put me back into the game again when it becomes available.

Much like a zombie, Dead Island is ugly on the outside but? wait this analogy makes no sense

Interesting open world, beautiful locations, amazing sense of dread and tension, different take on zombie games

Bugs, overly difficult at times, wonky interface

This unambitious but serviceable frankengame was clearly cobbled together from scavenged parts.

Narratively, Dead Island is unambitious. There’s no attempt at satire, commentary, or quirk. The plot, mostly communicated through quest-givers, is straight-faced as a straight-to-cable horror flick, but like the rest of the game, it’s serviceable....

Producing a one-of-a-kind trailer for an upcoming video game is a smart idea, but it can also come back and bite you in the ass if said product doesn't live up to the hype. This was a concern for us when we first saw the opening for Dead Island for the...

It can get repetitive at first, but as you increase skills and pick up more creative weaponry, the game really starts to get good. Then the new zombie types, like the near unstoppable Ram, show up and add some much-needed variety, and the fight for...

Great immersion ; Addictive gameplay ; Co-op is a blast ; Satisfying combat

Throw-away narrative ; Enemies level with you

Zombies. They have quickly become the popular centerpiece for more than a fair share of games these days. Hell, everything seems to at least feature them in some form or fashion. So when we first heard about Dead Island it was hard to get too excited;...

Review: Dead Island is Like a Bunch of Games You've Already Played

There's not much originality to be found, but Techland's latest milks the last few drops of fun from the zombie genre.

Great games don't have to be completely original -- take Beyond Good and Evil, for instance. Michel Ancel's 2003 cult classic blended the best bits of Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid to produce a fantastically playable experience that still has us...

Dead Island landed with a bang thanks to a lush CGI video that whipped up a hype-style frenzy and put the game firmly at the top of people's most wanted list. A whole island full of zombies to kill, with up to four player co-op? Seems to be a...

Dead Island surprised us by being a tightly crafted experience, full of interesting locales and intriguing missions. It can lose its way at times, but you will find yourself coming back for one more go time and time again, as crippling zombies and...

in the background to get into the mood

Ok, we’ve talked about what went well. Let’s talk about a few negatives and nit-picky things. When you are conversing with NPCs, the lip-syncing was not fantastic. There are games that do lip-syncing really well, and there are games that don’t get...
