Dead Space 3 (Xbox 360) Review

See what co-op adds to the game inside.

Crafting system is a great addition ; The horror of the series is still present ; Co-op can be a fun addition with friends

Dead Space 3

Creeping along a creaky, decaying corridor in near-darkness, surveying the walls for the slightest flicker of a shadow, listening intently for suspicious noises... That's what made Dead Space such a fine entry in the survival horror series upon its...

Dead Space 3 is another hugely engaging and entertaining entry in the series, but it's hampered by uneven pacing, predictable scares, a surfeit of aggressive enemies and too many frustrating bits. There's a lot of nice new ideas, such as weapon...

Dead Space 3 Review: Scare Tactics

1UP editors team up for a tandem review of Visceral's latest take on sci-fi horror.

If pop culture has taught us anything, it's that space can be a pretty lonely place. Like Ellen Ripley before him, Dead Space's Isaac Clark had to endure two full games of solitary terror in order to arrive at where he is today. To give the guy a...

Dead Space 3 Review

Isaac Clarke's latest adventure has him teaming up with space marines and kicking major Necromorph butt.

All things considered, Dead Space 3 just isn’t made for those of us craving another horror experience. It’s far less scary and far more shooter-y than the previous games in the series. But for fans of set piece-based action games, Dead Space 3 has a...

Dead Space 3 Review

Dead Space 3 has been one of my favourite new IPs of the generation. Does the saga of Isaac Clarke end with a bang or a whimper?

Dead Space 3" is a mixed bag. At its best, it’s never looked or played this well. But at its lowest points, it’s never been this repetitive, ugly, or derivative. It’s also the most hit-and-miss game in the series, with amazing levels in zero-G facing...

Dead Space 3 review – scare tactics

Controversial since the moment it was revealed, does the new Dead Space betray its survival horror roots in favour of anti-terrorist action?

Excellent graphics, particularly in the outer space and zero-gravity sections. Complex weapon customisation and a well-implemented co-op option

Far too much emphasis on action, especially given the mediocre controls. Repetitive and largely unimaginative set pieces. Not at all scary and lacking any real innovation

Schizophrenic to a fault, this may not be the disaster fans had feared but its doomed attempts to please all-comers falls predictably flat.

Dead Space 3 review: EA's horror series abandons its roots - and suffers for it

Ultra-polished blasting ; Early Optional Missions bring the traditional Dead Space scares ; Fun, disturbing new enemies ; Some great co-op moments

but co-op isn't the game-changer it's been made out to be ; It isn't Dead Space anymore ; Universal ammo and mountains of guns destroy tension ; Every level on Tau Volantis looks and feels the same

Dead Space 3 Review

An incredibly deep and expanding story and much of the Dead Space feel returning, albeit turned down a little, as well as all the new systems and elements will definitely divide fans, but may be more accessible to newcomers, which is always welcomed...

Great variety of environments, familiar and new; Weapon crafting offers such variety; Epic delivery and expansion of story, both single player and co-op; Perfect audio accompaniment creates immersion and tension

Tactical suspense scenarios replaced with monsters-in-numbers and wait and shoot; Leveling didn’t align with weapon upgrades; Progression from regular enemies to boss battles spiked off the charts; Looting was always plentiful, not requiring...

Dead Space 3- Xbox 360

After a disappointing Resident Evil 6 and a surprisingly great ZombiU, I was just as confused about the future of horror games as you might be. On one side of the spectrum, you see franchises becoming more action oriented and losing the essence of what...

Classic Dead Space ‘feel’ remains mostly intact ; Action-heavy moments are well-paced and provide a nice break from the more classic sequences ; Technically flawless, very polished game ; Co-op mode is a nice, non-intrusive addition ; Zero-G sections...

Still a tad less scary than the previous ones ; Puzzles need some work ; Strange difficulty curve ; Fighting human enemies is boring and unnecessary ; Some trade-offs make the game less special than its predecessors ; Cover system is broken

While the buzz surrounding the game brought fear to a lot of the series’ veteran players over the past few months, I’m happy to report that the final product is a near-perfect balance of classic Dead Space and action-oriented gameplay. Sure, the puzzle...
