Gears of War 3: RAAM’s Shadow Review

When DLC was first introduced, I know that I wasn't alone in being excited for the possibilities of extended single-player content. Most games take the easy route and add more online maps, skins and...

Lengthy adventure ; Playing as RAAM rocks ; Nice piece of lore

Offers little new ; Dialogue can be grating

When DLC was first introduced, I know that I wasn’t alone in being excited for the possibilities of extended single-player content. Most games take the easy route and add more online maps, skins and characters, but there are a few that dive into...

Gears of War 3: Raam's Shadow

It seems to me that creating prequels is one of the hardest things. In the best of worlds, a good story – or series of stories – is probably the standalone kind. That’s not to say good work hasn’t been done in series; plenty has. What it means is the...

Ultimately Raam’s Shadow provides all the things the series has been about from the beginning, mixing the most up-to-date mechanics with a known origins story that’s simultaneously disposable and perhaps crucial for the hardcore fans. What it doesn’t...

Gears of War 3: RAAM's Shadow Review (Xbox 360)

RAAM's Shadow takes us back to Emergence Day, the day that the Locusts attacked the human colonies on Sera. The events of E-Day, and the preceding pendulum wars, have only been hinted at during the course of the trilogy. You take command of Zeta Squad,...

Gears of War 3: RAAM's Shadow Review

RAAM's Shadow delivers good Gears action and a novel way to wreak havoc, but it's hampered by uneven pacing and a lackluster narrative.

Playing as RAAM provides some gruesome thrills ; Series' signature combat is in fine form

Locust levels present little challenge or diversity ; Human characters aren't very appealing ; Slow sections diminish excitement

Playing cooperatively and upping the difficulty level can make replay somewhat enticing, but it won't take you more than three hours to see all that RAAM's Shadow has to offer. It's good, Gears-y fun with a novel kick, but with the new series standard...

Gears of War 3: RAAM’s Shadow DLC…

Set back in the city Ilima, Gears of War 3: RAAM's Shadow follows the journey of Zeta squad preceding the events of the original Gears of War. Taking place shortly after Emergence Day, the Locust are confident and aggressive, burrowing topside from...

Gears of War 3: RAAM's Shadow Review

The first story-driven DLC for Gears of War 3 takes us back to before the trilogy started. How does this added tale come together?

RAAM’s Shadow is a good addition to the Gears of War universe and offers three to four hours of new content. While the dialogue isn’t great, new weapons appear in the past, and we’ve battled countless wretch attacks before, when the credits roll this...

Gears of War 3

There have only been a few franchises that have soaked up as much of my time as Gears of War has over the last five years. Once I took a chainsaw to the face of my first unsuspecting locust grub I was hooked. Gears of War was a masterpiece, especially...

While the Gears of War franchise as we know it has come to an end, I can’t wait to see what Epic brings us in the future. I’m personally hoping that we get some sort of prequel like what the Halo franchise did last year with Halo: Reach. Gears 3 DLC,...

Gears of War 3

Is this really the end? Epic has given us the third game in the Gears of War franchise and from the sounds of it; it's the end of Marcus Fenix's arc. Well, if that's true then Marcus's story has gone out with a satisfying ending in Epic's latest third...

The single player campaign finishes up the story nicely and there's a ton of replay value in mutiplayer mode. I'm in love with the new Beast mode and still thoroughly enjoy Horde mode with the new additions. Not much has changed up from the previous...

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is finally here and if you're like 90 percent or so of Xbox 360 owners, you're probably going to play it - if you haven't already. After two strong games, developer Epic has a lot to live up to. The Gears series has impacted the game...

Gears of War 3

Save for a bit of rough patches around players during movie sequences, Gears 3 is easily the best looking of the series. Characters are well voiced, the score is stunning, environments are crazy detailed and the game performs incredibly well.

Of course, there are items and characters you unlock via leveling up - like the ability to paint your blood soaked chainsaw lancer with a rainbow color. That's got to be good for something right?
