More than just a short new campaign, The Passing adds several new bells and whistle into the mix, ensuring increased longevity and depth. Other DLC developers take note.

Pacing decisions make it feel a little less rounded than L4D2's existing campaigns. Really, it's just a shame that this unique combination of still-alivers didn't result in something truly innovative.

The Passing is a no brainer on the PC at zero dollars. The seven bucks it costs on Xbox 360 seems a little steep, especially when the quality of future mutations remains unknown. What's here is ultimately very good, but it comes at a small premium.

Mutations might be a great way to get people talking and have them coming back at least once a week, but I'm not sure it's the cherry on the cake that The Passing needed to be a must-buy add-on.
