Blitz was always meant to be played with friends in the same room, and by bringing back all of the fast-paced thrills of the old games, EA has not only evoked nostalgia, but rekindled ancient rivalries and their attendant arcane rules.

You can pile on all the extra modes you want, but if the core action is unchanged, it's hard to shake the feeling that you've done this all before. Don't expect NFL Blitz to have the same impact it did so many years ago, but this is still a satisfying...

If you were anything like me, you enjoyed some hard-hitting action on the Nintendo 64 version ofNFL Blitz. It was a straightforward, arcade-style, over-the-top football game that was a blast to play, alone or especially with friends. There were no...
If you've played recent EA games that have used a card-based system, the included "Elite League" mode will be familiar territory. You're dealt a hand of cards (players), and you earn Blitz bucks by playing and winning online. The Blitz bucks can then...
This version of the game, by the same name, returns via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, and I'm happy to report that it stays true to the foundation on which is was built years ago.

Just as it did over the past couple of years with NBA Jam (both the original and the On Fire Edition), EA Sports has injected new life into yet another Midway arcade franchise, NFL Blitz. And even though the timing can be questioned – we're in playoff...
The stadiums don’t differ much, but who cares when you have this much chaos on the field? We also like the fantasy teams, from the hot dog suited dorks to the zombies. Yep, zombies. And what would NFL Blitz be without the returning Tim Kitzrow, who...
Pile that on with great sound effects and upbeat (if slightly generic) music and you’ve got a winning package. No, NFL Blitz isn’t PRECISELY the same as its old counterpart, because, yep, we do miss the late hits. But it’s as good as arcade football...

NFL Blitz looks exactly as you'd think it would, filled with in your face visuals and muscle-bound versions of your favorite NFL Stars. It may lack some of the visuals from games like Madden, but the style works -- and it works well.
More developers need to learn from Blitz and offer this content as cheats...rather than DLC.

NFL Blitz contains the same shallow fun and aggravating flaws that have existed in the franchise for more than 14 years.
Bone-crushing action is still fun ; Lots of unlockable content ; Online play is smooth and engaging
Little has changed since original Blitz games ; Fluky quirks lead to frustration
Ranking up in Battle, unlocking cards in Elite, and fighting bosses in Gauntlet give Blitz a surprising amount of longevity. You could spend hours in each mode trying to gain access to everything, so there's plenty of content here for 1,200 Microsoft...

NFL Blitz is back after a decade-long absence on the video game field. How does EA Sports' interpretation of arcade classic stack up? Matt finds out.
EA Sports was in a fourth-down situation, having unsuccessfully tried to clone Blitz’s arcade football magic with NFL Street, NFL Tour and Madden NFL Arcade. By employing a trick play of “if you can’t beat ‘em, buy ‘em” and by sticking to the series’...
Granted, you’re not quite pile-driving NFL players into the ground anymore. But that’s a small price to pay for having online play, HD graphics and not having to learn what the heck Madden NFL’s Hit Stick 2.0 is.

A skewed take on football takes the sport to silly x-tremes.
Then again, Blitz shouldn’t be too absurd. The NFL’s self-seriousness counterpointed with just the right amount of absurdity is what’s needed. The announcers strike the right tone: Brian Haley and Tim Kitzrow deliver the sort of inane Chris...
