Review: R-Type Dimensions (Microsoft Xbox 360)

R-Type is a classic shooter franchise, and fans will tell you that it's one of the best out there, for good reason. The original game was an absolute classic, R-Type Final was a masterpiece of epic proportions, and a good many of the games have been...

R-Type Dimensions is a fantastic remake of two great games, R-Type and R-Type II, and fans of the series and shooters overall should have every reason to pick it up, as it’s a faithful remake that both enhances and preserves the experience, though that...

R-Type Dimensions

R-Type Dimensions comes with an "infinite lives" mode for a reason - because games were harder in the late 80s, and no genre exemplifies that quarter-eating mentality that carried over to console releases better than R-Type. You are tasked with saving...

R-Type Dimensions - Xbox 360 review at Thunderbolt Games

Your knuckles are bloodied and bruised, there's broken glass littering the floor; people are screaming, including yourself. Is this the scene of an unfortunate bar fight? No, I‘m afraid not. Because those knuckles are in agonising pain from where you...

R-Type Dimensions

Do you remember the arcades? A network of compartmentalized warzones brought to life with the sound of machinegun button mashing and the smell of sweaty joysticks. Gamers hunched over a screen, cursing, as they thumb their lucky 1979 quarter into the...

Its a bit too expensive for what you get. A entertaining ardous romp for the hardcore, an hour distraction for everyone else.

The R-Types blast their way to Xbox 360, complete with a snazzy 3-D upgrade.

Playing against type

Still plays solidly ; Provides relief from difficulty ; Swap between old and new graphics

Ego-destroying without infinite lives ; Appears somewhat quaint ; Won't amuse for long

Dozens of Live’s retro remakes are shallow and outdone by modern titles but R-Type’s inspired bosses and weapons remain strong to this day. Nearly every side-scrolling shooter released in its wake owes it a considerable debt, but R-Type plays as good...

R-Type Dimensions [Xbox Live Arcade]

The coin-op classics R-Type and R-Type II return to gamers in one downloadable game thanks to R-Type Dimensions. Players can blast through refurbished versions of 14 classic levels, switching on the fly between the traditional 2D perspective and the new f

Whenever you see those "best games in the history of gaming" lists, you hardly ever see shoot "em ups. Yet, for a glorious period in the early to mid eighties, shoot "em ups were the staple fare of youngsters who spent far too little time concentrating...

R-Type Dimensions

R-Type Dimensions is two games in one. Including both of the classic coin-op games R-Type and R-Type II with updated graphics, audio and gameplay as well as what has become an industry standard almost co-operative gameplay. Created by Tozai Games and...

Nice 3D graphics ; Can switch from 2D to 3D easy ; Easy Achievements ; Co-op gameplay ; Two Games

Too difficult ; The Xbox 360 gamepad is not accurate enough for this type of game ; Short games ; Costly game for single player

The Co-op is a nice addition with both infinite (unlimited lives) and classic mode, as well as player collisions which is a complete aggravating thing to turn on, at least for me who ended up running into the other player or being run into on a...

R-Type Dimensions

For a 22-year-old game it stands up remarkably well, but it's a shame that a few omissions prevent R-Type Dimensions from being all it could have been.

Still plays really well ; Nice modern touches

Can't change difficulty ; No control customisation

R-Type Dimensions is a very well made and highly recommended XBLA game, combining the original games' brilliance with a touch of modern presentation. 1200 Microsoft Points might seem a tad high, but we doubt too many people would be moaning had this...
