There's a decent game here overall. It isn't particularly difficult, and experienced gamers will be able to blow through it in a day or two, I imagine. But it looks cool, and it harks back to a simpler time, when 2D platformers ruled the roost.

Local co-op adds your mentor, Bunniguru, to the game, and we did like his more martial-artsy moves. What we really craved, though, were a little more story and some interesting puzzles - stuff that might've given us a better connection to the source...

Scarygirl just isn't worth the price, except for huge fan of Jurevicius' art, or those desperate for something new to play in January's barren wasteland of game releases.

Originally appearing in a series of graphic novels written by Nathan Jurevicius, Scarygirl makes its way into the digital realm with a downloadable game of the same name. Scarygirl follows the adventures of a poor orphan girl adopted by a sentient...
Scarygirl is easily the most fun I’ve had with a 2D side-scrolling platformer in a long long time. If you’re in the market for a platforming experience that isn’t meant for gamers with 2 brains, 3 hands, and 15 fingers, then go download Scarygirl right...
Blister raised her, built her a sweet treehouse, and plumbed the depths of the ocean to decorate it and her in a motley collection of pirate-themed regalia. For those that are unfamiliar with the graphic novel, all that manifests itself as a little...

Unless you're an utmost fan of Tim Burton or one of those people who live to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline in a non-stop movie marathon, you probably won't see the appeal of Scarygirl right away. It definitely channels in those...
We do, however, like the option of playing along with a friend. Though not supported online, the local two-player is excellent, as you can team up with a buddy and combine attacks to greater measure. It definitely makes the trip a little easier to take...
It’s not quite great, due to some iffy problems that surface later on in the game, but you’re sure to like it. Scarygirl herself is without parents, but lives happily in a tree home that was built by a kind, oversized octopus, where she’s lived in...

Scarygirl has style to spare, but vexing combat and loose controls get in the way of a great time.
Creepy but fun atmosphere ; Collectible upgrades ; Challenging platforming
Cheap combat ; Sloppy controls
Most levels adhere to genre traditions. Scarygirl runs and jumps through varied environments, collecting crystals and defeating enemies as she goes. Her movement is imprecise, however, which makes for some awkward moments. If Scarygirl starts running...

I am not going to lie, before I got my copy of ScaryGirl I had never even heard of this IP. The unique art-style and premise of the game are what interested me. On the outside, it may look like your standard...
Great replay value ; Co-op is a blast ; Unique art style
Loose controls ; Cheap hits ; No online co-op
I am not going to lie, before I got my copy of ScaryGirl I had never even heard of this IP. The unique art-style and premise of the game are what interested me. On the outside, it may look like your standard artsy platformer, but once you invest...
Fans of the series get an extremely competent interpretation of the universe, while the rest of us get a damn fine action/platformer. This is a win/win situation for everyone.

A graphic-novel-derived game gets the look right, but not the gameplay.
Scarygirl lets you team up with a friend in offline co-op mode, but bringing in Scarygirl’s pal Bunnyguru adds little beyond the amusing music that plays as he mystically floats through the air. Bunnyguru can’t grapple, which means he’s unable to...

The world of Scarygirl is an artistic trip within the rabbit hole (reality has no bearings in this adventure). It's a strange little tale that flings Scarygirl (that's her name) from her comfortable treetop home on a dangerous quest. It's a place...
And that leads to one final question: who is expected to play this game? Judging by the nature of the storytelling, the easy answer would be kids. The narrator has the proper voice for it, and the world is colorful enough. It’s the difficulty curve...
