Shift 2 Unleashed

One and a half years ago, Need For Speed: Shift gave that series some much-needed variety with a sim-styled take on racing. It was a pretty good racer that took a little bit of something from every major racing series, in a good way, and rewarded...

Like the original, Shift 2 is a flawed sim but still manages to become greater than the sum of its parts. The wonky handling and annoying load times haven't been completely eliminated, while the new reduced methods of earning XP make getting through...

Shift 2 Unleashed

Ever sped down a road or highway way faster than you were supposed to or taken a corner with more speed than you should have, making the wheel squeal just a little bit? That adrenaline rush you get that comes with speed is what Shift 2 is trying to...

Shift 2: Unleashed Review

A contender, but still not ready for the podium.

Excellent physics, vast array of technically-inclined tuning options, realistic damage, plenty of cars and tracks, and the integration of Autolog

A.I. can be suspiciously immune to crashes, poorly organized menus and long loading times, distracting visuals with tons of light-shimmer at edges

Shift 2 Unleashed Review for the XBOX360

Is there a racer in you?

Captures the feel of a fast car; In-helmet view elevates your heartrate; Autolog and XP keep racers coming back

AI racers are dicks

Shift 2 Unleashed

The driving lanes for simulation racers have become pretty crowded over the last couple of years. Not only has there been a multitude of racers but

Shift 2 Unleashed is a solid racing game. It may not be on the same high level as a Gran Turismo or Forza, but it’s sure getting close. If you enjoyed the last game or are looking for a new simulation racer to get into Shift 2 Unleashed is a good one...

Shift 2: Unleashed

Shift 2 Unleashed is a rip roaring, adrenaline fuelled, beast of a title. The Need For Speed series has always focused on raw speed but, until now, the games have been promoted as simulation games. Shift 2 Unleashed simply goes for broke, this is...

Fantastic visuals ; Helmet camera is amazing ; Extensive customization ; Autolog keeps player going ; Racing just feels right

Drifting is still hit or miss ; Career mode flies by

Two years ago, we got our hands on Need for Speed’s take on “simulation” racing. It was a decent go for its first try. Now, we finally get the sequel to the arcade/simulation hybrid in the form of Shift 2: Unleashed.

Shift 2: Unleashed

An immersive driving game rewards patience.

With more than 140 vehicles, most with tongue-twisting monikers like “Lamborghini Murcielago LP640,” Shift 2 should satisfy the car fetishists in the audience. Unfortunately, Career mode, as in the original, still feels less like a career and more like...

Shift 2: Unleashed

Helmet Cam

Incredible track effects and damage model, tight mechanics, the Helmet Cam should be the new standard

Only 145 cars, no split-screen, no free play, minor graphics issues

It isn’t just for show either. The turns are often riddled with debris such as rocks, dirt and chunks of rubber. These dirty parts of the roadway are just as dangerous to you as they are to drivers on the authentic circuit and should be avoided at all...

SHIFT 2 Unleashed Review

Ever have one of those days where you thought someone was out to “get you”? Well, sure, we probably all have, but how often have you had those days while getting behind the wheel of a car? While we probably prefer to sidestep road rage situations,...
