Soldier of Fortune: Payback review for the XBOX360

More than suicidal tendencies.

Blowing off every human extremity...; Good graphics, especially field-of-view effects

but it's far too excessive.; Lame story; Disturbing philosophical outlook; Politically, morally, and intellectually offensive; Paints gamers as disturbed individuals; Amorous Cheney = Stab My Eyes Out

The essential problem with Soldier of Fortune: Payback is that it tries very hard to appear realistic while trotting out silly gameplay mechanisms. It's hard to tell if it's a serious shooter covering the military side of contemporary politics, or a...

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

In 2000, the PC gaming industry was graced with Soldier of Fortune, one of the first modern warfare games of its time, and a game Activision based on real life mercenaries who were heavily influenced by the Soldier of Fortune magazine. Setting it apart...

Though Soldier of Fortune is a very successful franchise, it seems as if the console ports just don't hold up as they should. It's really sad to see the franchise fall behind on its debut on the Xbox 360 but hopefully we'll see some patches and some...

Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back on Xbox 360

Last Gen

I am glad Soldier of Fortune made the jump to next gen, but it made the jump a little too late. With all the great First Person Shooters released in the last year, it only takes a minute of gameplay to see why Payback is lacking. If you are a die hard...

Soldier of Fortune: Payback Review

Forget Payback, pay it forward and let a friend know to stay away from this lackluster, uninspiring shooter.

A limitation on its gore isn't the sole reason why Payback fails as a shooter; instead, it's one of many factors that contributes to the game's lackluster quality. There is essentially nothing that distinguishes the game as unique or worthwhile amid a...

Soldier of Fortune Payback Review

Soldier of Fortune … What can one say about this deranged, irresponsible montage of sickening gore available to you in a wonderfully woven gift basket created by the remnants of dismembered limbs? It has created a cult following amassing hordes of...

Not only is the AI macabre, they are an outright abomination! Their intelligence reached an apex somewhere between a baboon and a Seagull while it feasts on a fresh making of Alka-Seltzer. Some of your targets will make a feeble attempt at maintaining...

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

Me too, I loved the other two SoF's. Well now I have to wait for another game to present me with tremendous amounts of blood at gore. Post a Comment

It's very obvious Raven had nothing to do with this game, and longtime fans of the series will notice in the first 20 minutes this isn't close to what the first Soldier of Fortune was. Who knew that gratuitous violence could be made boring?

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

Payback ain't much of a bitch in this tepid first-person shooter

Familiar controls ; Mindless entertainment ; The (lack of) difficulty level

Been there, done that feeling ; Boring graphics ; Buying the game instead of renting it

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

The Good: Gore, and lots of it (if you consider that a good thing); interesting graphics; tons of weapons. The Bad: Unpopular multiplayer; very short campaign The Ugly: Stupid AI, single player maps very linear, utter destruction of the enjoyable SoF...

For some unknown reason Activision took a pretty respectable franchise (I still play SoF2 from time to time to this day, and it is still installed on my PC), and chucked it in the garbage. They've clearly created a budget title, and then added insult...

Soldier of Fortune: Payback (Xbox 360) review

Prepare yourself to be wowed and amazed by one of the most unremarkable games of 2007

A contender for one of the direst games of the year, Payback is two parts uninspired garbage and three parts loading screen.
